Macbeth – Act I Scene 7 Analysis
William Shakespeare play, Macbeth relates to regicide and its aftermath. There are two main characters Macbeth and Lady Macbeth are used by Shakespeare in this intense play addressing complex psychological issues. Today I will be focus on the main character Macbeth and analyze his shifting point of view. Macbeth is a tragic character. At the beginning of the play, he is a hero nobleman and a Scottish general in the king’s army. He brings good news from war. He has gained recognition for himself through his defeat because he is a good warrior. Macbeth has great ambition and wants to succeed beyond the battleground. He does everything without wicked thought. But because he has a wife Lady Macbeth, she is ambitious and power hungry and her machinations are as cold and vicious as her husband’s actions and steely sense of purpose to put him into the deed. He loses his great ambition and get into careerism. A series of new crime is coming with him. This is evidently show as Macbeth is represented as a man blindly driven by his ambitious nature and it is Macbeth’s fervent of power that leads him in committing the murder. The play changes from a hero story to a murder story.
In the prior scenes, king Duncan named Macbeth as “Thane of Cawdor.” At Act I Scene 7, king Duncan was visiting Macbeth’s castle as a guest. Therefore Macbeth started to believe he could inherit the throne. In this scene, Macbeth paces by himself, pondering on his idea of assassinating Duncan. He says that the deed would be easy if he could be certain that it would not set in motion a series of terrible consequences. He then considers the reasons why he ought not to kill Duncan: Macbeth is Duncan’s kinsman, subject, and host. Moreover, the king is universally admired as a virtuous ruler.
