We are always looking to bring you new designer’s shoes. Today we have two latest shoes brands from a veteran shoes designer! Her designs are fresh, modern and feminine. Totally fabulous! Lui Cui Ping, a ladies shoe designer who was born and bred in KL, has contributed her talents at illustrious labels such as Vincci and AMP for the past 10 years. She studied graphic design at Limkokwing University and after having always designed footwear for others, she is now creating two new shoes brand called White Label and Lui-Lui.
My interview with Cui Ping grabs insight into local shoes industry and sheds light into the mind of this talented shoe designer. What made you become a footwear designer? I applied a job at AMP as Display Artist after graduated from Limkokwing . I was interviewed by Sonny San, founder of Eclipse and he asked me if I were interested to work as in-house shoes designer, I was immediately interested in the opportunity and have worked at AMP for 4 years.
(My own note: Even before the White Label and Lui-Lui, Cui Ping has worked for Vincci, the largest ladies shoes retailer in Malaysia, for 6 years.) What are the pros and cons of being a footwear designer? As a freelance shoes designer, I get to work closely with manufacturers and I take control in managing my time, workflow both in quality and quantity in my products. In order to meet the quality, some parts have to be made by hand such as decorating the ribbon. I have so many things to do in a day. But I think it is fun. Tell me a little bit about your brands. Lui-Lui is inspired by vibrant fashion from Korea and my target audience is working adult from aged 21 to 40. For White Label bridal shoes, they are always classy and elegant, without any blinking embellishment. Which is your favorite design? My favorite design would be “Tiffany” from White Label.
