Network topologies describe the physical and logical arrangement of an enterprise’s network nodes. There are four major network topologies usually utilized by enterprises: Bus, Ring, Mesh, and Star topology. These topologies are different from one another, and all have their advantages and disadvantages

                                          Bus Topology
The Bus Topology allows the linking of all network devices to a long backbone. The Bus Topology is easy to handle and implement. It is also very convenient for small networks since it requires little amount of cable. On the other hand, however, the cable length being   limited poses a drawback, says Manali Oak in his/her 2010 Advantages and Disadvantages of Different Network Topologies. Perhaps the main demerit of the Bus topology is that if there is a fault in the backbone it can stop all transmission

                                            Ring Topology
All nodes in a Ring Topology are connected in a ring structure. A signal passes from one node to another, until it reaches its destination (Rajesh Choudry, 2009). When a node receives a signal intended for another node it regenerates the signal and passes it on to the intended node.

Advantage of Ring Topology
The data being transmitted between two nodes passes through all the intermediate nodes. A central server is not required for the management of this topology.

Disadvantages of Ring Topology
The failure of a single node of the network can cause the entire network to fail.
The movement or changes made to network nodes affects the performance of the entire network.... [continues]
