The movie troy takes place in the year of 1250 B.C. during the late Bronze Age. Two nations (Trojans and Greeks) begin to clash after Paris, the Trojan prince, convinces Helen, Queen of Sparta, to leave her husband, Menelaus, and sail with him back to Troy. After Menelaus finds out that the Trojans took his wife, he asks his brother Agamemnon to help him get her back. Agamemnon sees this as an opportunity for power. So they set off with 1,000 ships holding 50,000 Greeks to Troy. With the help of Achilles, the Greeks are able to fight the Trojans. Achilles at first doesn’t want to participate in the war, but later on makes on of the biggest blows to the Trojans by killing Hector, the price of Troy. The war had finally ended in 1240 B.C. It had ended when Greek hero Odysseus came fourth with the idea to make what was called the Trojan horse. The Greeks pretended to sail away, and the Trojans pulled the horse into their city as a victory trophy. During the nighttime 30 Greek men emerged for the wooden horse and entered and destroyed the city of Troy, decisively ending the war. The mythic accuracy of the movie Troy does differ from the book more than its similar.

The movie troy came from many ideas from different books but mostly from the Iliad. It was written by Homer, a Greek poet, who made most of the records for the Trojan War. Even though most of the book was remade a lot making the story completely different from the book, the directors did seem to keep some important similarities in the movie. In both the movie and the book the need for Achilles by the Greek to participate in the war was almost identical. He was the bravest, handsomest, and greatest warrior of the army of Agamemnon in the Trojan War. Agamemnon had done everything in his power to get Achilles to fight in the war, but Achilles was still mad that Agamemnon took away Briseis; a woman captured and presented to Achilles during the Trojan War, and refused to fight. He didn’t fight again for the

Achilles criticizes the “heroic code” in the Iliad. Achilles has an unusual double fate: he knows that if he goes home from Troy, he will have a long life without glory. If he stays, he will win great glory but his life will be cut short. One measure of the extraordinary experience Achilles is going through emerges from his refusal to abide by the customary rules of status, when he rejects Agamemnon’s offer in Book Nine. Both characters in the myth are fighting because Agamemnon has taken charge of Achilles’ Trojan slave named Briseis, claiming her as his property. Achilles has feelings for Briseis, which drives the plot in The Iliad. Achilles already despises Agamemnon, so this final act of disrespect causes Achilles…

Both versions portray the Trojan War between Greece and Troy, Achilles killing Hector and King Priam visiting Achilles to ask for the body of his son Hector back. However both versions do not portray accurate versions of the fight between Menelaus and Paris, nor do they correctly explain why Helen has come to reside in Troy nor does the movie portray the proper burial rights of the Greeks. This is due to the absence of the Gods and Goddesses in the movie.…

The Trojan war was a ten year siege on the city of the city of Troy at the hands of the Greek forces led by a psychopathic king, Agamemnon. This conflict, which took place about 1200 B.C has become one of the most well known Greek mythology events in history. In the 13th century B.C, Troy and Sparta had stopped their wars and become allies, this was until Paris the youngest prince of Troy seduced Helen, the Queen of Sparta and left with her back to Troy. When Menelaos (The King of Sparta) found out what had happened, he vowed to conquer Troy and with the help of his brother Agamemnon he launched one of the largest military campaign’s in history. After summoning all available forces that would answer his call, Agamemnon launched over 1000 ships headed towards the city of Troy. The war consisted of many heroes such as: Achilles, leader of the Myrmidons, Ajax, the tall Salamian leader, Odysseus, the resourceful and cunning king of Ithaca and Hector and Paris the princes of Troy. Hector, was commander-in-chief of the Trojan forces . Hector was the best warrior on the Trojan side. Achilles was the immortal warrior who was the best soldier in the Greek forces and possibly the world . The numbers of the Greek forces have been said to have been as high as over 130,000, but this was most likely exaggerated and the Trojan army supposedly matched these numbers. As the forces were relatively identical in size, who would win the war would come down to the weapons used, the soldiers fighting and the tactics issued by both armies’ commanders.…

To play the terrifying and intimidating Achilles, Peterson was able get Hollywood heartthrob Brad Pitt. With casting Pitt, Peterson was able to really emphasis what was found in Achilles during the duration of the epic. Which is why Peterson giving Pitt an additional scene in the movie where it seems as if Achilles has emotions. In the film, Achilles is seen to be grieving the death of a valiant warrior, Hector. Despite that, in The Iliad, Achilles who slaughters Hector, is not seen demonstrating any kind of sensitivity towards the Trojan warrior's demise. The expansion of emotions to Achilles' character again gives the entire drama aspect to the theme of the film. It makes Achilles appear like one of us, rather than the fierce warrior he is really portrayed as in the epic. This gives the modern audience a kind of sensitivity towards Achilles, who has lost his cousin Patrocles and now he has slaughtered the prince of Troy, who like him, cherished his family. Helen was in the end taken by Menelaus, and Menelaus was not executed by Hector. By doing this Petersen gave the film a kind of good guy gets the girl sort feeling, as Paris is appeared to be honest and safe, despite the fact that he brought about the war. In the film he might be seen as a legend sort character, although in the epic, he is seen as an antagonist type of…

Homer's The Iliad presents many key details on the Trojan War. The Iliad tells of the Trojan War, saying that there was a war and that it was an expedition to rescue Helen after her abduction by Paris. It tells us that "Agamemnon King of Men" (Homer, p.1) moved the Greek people to unite and take up arms against Priam's city of Troy where Helen was being held after she was stolen from Menelaus. The Iliad, however also brings myth into the mix with the idea that when Paris was asked to judge the beauty of the Goddesses, Athena, Aphrodite and Hera, he picked Aphrodite who offered him the love of the most beautiful woman in the world (Helen). It is these ideas that lead us to question the accuracy of The Iliad, and before considering The Iliad to be true, Homer's reliability as a creditable writer must be considered.…

He realized that only with all the Greek soldiers could there be a chance of defeating the Trojans and Patroclus didn't want to see such shame of defeat fall onto Greece. He did the best he could for Greece and tried to bestow some honor on his fellow warriors at the same time. Patroclus was so loyal to his country that even when the fierce warrior and prince of Troy, Hector, started to fight him, he didn't admit defeat by saying that he wasn't actually Achilles. Instead, Patroclus fought on and bravely died a tragic death that wasn't meant for him. It's amazing actually how a man like Patroclus could have such a…

The epic story told in Trojan War is considered by many to be a starting foundation of Greek mythology and to other modern stories we still tell today. It is a story of envy, disloyalty, cleverness, and persistence that few stories can challenge. Greek myths such as The War on Troy tell of epic tales of gods and goddesses working together and even feuding among each other in order to create a more desirable world for themselves. They are the stories of people dealing with and overcoming personal and cultural issues as represented by the gods in a society where history and storytelling go hand in hand. These so called myths…

The movie “Troy” which was released in 2004 was a fairly remarkable movie. However, the scene starting with the Trojan Horse being found by the Trojans and ending with Troy being sacked had lacked effectiveness. This may be due to insufficient details delivered throughout the whole movie. It may be a disappointment if one decides to look at the accuracy of the movie’s depiction of the stories of Homer’s The Odyssey and Virgil’s Aeneid. Both poems are known to be accountable written sources that go way back many centuries ago, having described the Trojan Horse and the events of the Trojan War. Even an ancient Greek – if one were to watch the 21st century film, – will be a little dismayed on how different and slightly vague the movie was from the written history they know.…
