“Nanotechnology is the art and science of manipulating matter at the atomic or molecular scale and putting them together in an ordered fashion to do something”.

Nanotechnology is not a new invention, it has been around since at least the fourth century.

Lycurgus Cup is in the British Museum and is a Roman glass cage cup.

 1959 - Richard Feynman speech , “There’s Plenty of Room at the Bottom” is credited for the

origins of Nanotechnology.
 1974 – The term Nanotechnology was introduced in a scientific paper by Professor Norio

Taniguchi. He used the term to describe micromachining.
 1981 to 1986 – Eric Drexler began publishing papers and books that described

Nanotechnology as molecular manufacturing.
 1980s – IBM invented several tools to manipulate atoms.  1985 – A group of scientists discovered fullerenes, named Buckyballs.

 1989 – IBM took xenon atoms and put them into the shape of their logo.
 1992 – Eric Drexler published “Nanosystems”, a technical work that outlined a way to

manufacture extremely high-performance machines from molecular carbon framework.
