 Advancing technology has the ability to not only be innovative but improve society. Recently, there has been an advancement in different scientific fields such as medicine, ecology, and the environment. With this comes the advent of nanotechnology, which is the creation of functional materials, devices and systems through control of matter at the scale of 1-100 nanometers. The idea is that atoms make up all things in the world, which can be manipulated to produce almost anything. For example, todays scientist are trying to discover a way in which nanoparticles are able to help cancer patients; it also serves as a means to improve the global energy system. However, with these new findings come many risks that can potentially harm people or the environment. After considering both the positive and negative consequences of the use of nanotechnology it is clearly evident that the pros outweigh the potential threats. The use of nanotechnology is applied in the medicial field since the discovery of the nanoparticle. Scientists are in search to find a cure for cancer and help those in need. For example, there have been studies that demonstrate the ways in which nanotechnology can help patients with pancreatic cancer diagnosis and treatment. A recent article states, “Nanomaterials developed in the lab are capable of carrying both imaging, therapeutic cargoes, and multiple drugs to increase therapeutic effect” (Shaw). This demonstrates that the use of these particles can potentially stop disease internally. The use of nanoparticles serve many purposes when treating patients for cancer. For example, these nanoparticles are specialized to detect cancer cells, and send receptors so that doctors are able to locate where the cancer is spreading. In turn this helps the patients that are suffering and lessens the side effects. Scientists spend a lot of time in the labs in order to create a particle that is so small that it can effectively and efficiently serve its purpose....
