Introduction
Education is an essential ingredient to eradicate so many social and economic evils. Females constitute about 50 per cent of our population, if they remain economically inactive and do not contribute to the GDP of Pakistan, it will slacken the economic development. Literate and enlightened women, being progressive in their outlook, will help build-up a progressive and enlightened nation. A literate woman is welfare oriented hence, tackle all issues accordingly. Her domestic role is always enlightened and forward looking. The constrictive norms and taboos of our society can only be relaxed and eliminated if we enlighten the minds of our women with education. An educated mother will surely breed an enlightened nation. As Napoleon Bonaparte has rightly said “Give me an educated mother, I shall promise you the birth of a civilized, educated nation” Scope

It’s a very pivotal and crucial study because women constitute a predominant segment of our society. If they remain illiterate, it will be detrimental to the progress of whole nation. So the need of the hour is to dig out the real causes of this problem and to find out remedial measures to eliminate this menace. Only those nations can progress in life that refute and discard the status quo and respond to the needs of the time. In order to prosper and progress gender disparities resulting from the dogmatic and stereotype views of society will have to be changed right in conformity with the scientific and technological development of our age. Women will have to stride at par with their men folks in attaining education and skills. It is extremely important, therefore, to carry out research and studies to address the causes of low female literacy rate in Pakistan. Literature Review
