BACK TO INTERNATIONAL TRADE-----Definition
Dumping occurs when a country sells its products in foreign market at a price lower than in domestic market or at a price below cost, which causing damage to the industry with competency in foreign country.

Anti dumping is a series of resistant measures to the dumping. It imposes additional tax besides tariff on dumping goods, so that these import goods cannot be sold at low price. Anti dumping duty is used most widely.

MEASURES COULD BE TAKEN TO DEAL WITH AMERICAN’S PROTECTIONISM
1. Raise the value added to the tire products.
The tires exported are mainly middle or low-class products targeted at foreign spare tire market. The technology content and brand value of the products are relatively low in comparison to foreign products. In addition, because of the low prices and giant volume of exports, the export of tires can be easily judged as dumping and result in conflicts. According to this, tire companies should pay more attention to R&D programs in search of competitive products that are high value-added.
2. Explore potential markets apart from the U.S.
It is wise to build stronger trade network overseas other than U.S. to avoid risk. For examples, trial spots of marketing can be set in Mid-east districts, Africa, and Latin-America, which statistics suggest have witnessed a growing demand for tires in recent years. On the other hand, attention should also be paid to the potential market inside China. In fact, pioneers such as “Huanghai Rubber” have seen the opportunity in the government’s policy called “leading cars to the countryside” and receive a promising return by taking advantage of this.
3. Set up alarm device for trade frictions
When the accusation first took place in the case, although Chinese companies responded actively for their individual interest, they failed to stay united and help each other to find a way out in the absence of a guild. Certain firms went helpless in face of the unfavorable

However, the disadvantages of antidumping are much more than the advantages to some extent. First and foremost, as filing an antidumping case takes amount of time and energy, it will distract firms from its goals and objects thus weaken the overall strengths of the company. If firms concentrated on its main market intentions rather than setting an antidumping case, it would be more efficient in achieving its own goal. Second, even if the firm wins the antidumping case, maybe it will lose some sales volume. This is because with the higher price of imports setting by tariff of governments, the price of domestic products also goes up. When customers have a high price sensitive, they choose not to buy certain products and thus the sales volume of the certain firm can be affected. Last but not least, the war of antidumping can destroy the good…

In his article, Get-Tough Policy on Chinese Tires Falls Flat, John Bussey sheds some light on to the tariff that the U.S. enacted in 2009 on Chinese tire imports. The tariff was meant to limit the import of passenger and light-truck tires and help give a boost to manufacturers and job creation in the U.S. As many of the opponents of the tariff point out, it has not added any substantial amount of jobs in the industry but has instead lead to higher prices due to the price of the tariff being passed down to the consumer. In the first year the number of imports from China dropped nearly 35% but in reality it didn’t increase manufacturing here in the U.S., instead the business moved to Indonesia, Thailand, and Mexico. One tire shop owner argues that prices have also increased for the U.S. made tire as well due to those manufacturers using the cover of the tariff to raise their prices across the board.…

Price plays a large factor in the tire industry. Many consumers purchase their tires based on the price, due to the fact that they know little about tires and are more focused on getting a good price in comparison to a better quality tire. Customers who know more about tires or automobiles look for quality of the tires for their vehicles. At the retail level, salesmen are pushed to sell the private label tires of a store before any other one. This is difficult to do when a customer has a brand loyalty.…

The European tyre industry is very unique. Primarily dominated by Michelin, there are several other competitors that hold a strong, consistent market share and brand awareness. Bridgestone is not one of these companies; Bridgestone’s current marketing strategies in Europe are not at all effective. Currently, Bridgestone’s market share and brand awareness in Europe rate among the lowest of tyre manufacturers; if Bridgestone would like to continue to hold 20% of the global market share (highest w/ Michelin), they must address this issue promptly.…

Retreading tyres is a way of recycling used tyres in which the life of the original tyre is extended by 30-100%. In that process, used tyres are reconditioned for further use by stripping the worn tread from the skeleton and replacing it with new material in the form of a new tread. Although recycling used tyres through retreading is generally environmentally friendly because it expands the overall lifespan of a tyre, international trade in already retreaded tyres can negatively impact the environment…
