In Stephen Wagner’s article “Mothers' Messages from Beyond,” Wagner writes about the accounts of real people who claim they have felt the presence of their mothers in some way after their passing. The article includes five personal accounts from other people, along with Wagner’s own personal experience. The supernatural accounts vary anywhere from hearing whispers, seeing apparitions, and even seeing the deceased in one’s dreams. Wagner’s primary point is that a mother’s love and presence is so powerful, it can be felt in the physical realm whether the mother is deceased or nowhere near the child. One example of a mother’s presence being felt in the physical realm while being disconnected physically or mortally with their child was mentioned in the account of Kris in August, 1975. Kris claimed to have heard her mother’s…

The relationships displayed between mother and child in the stories, “A New Perspective” and “All the Years of Her Life” are closely similar and vastly different at the same time. The similarity is that the children in both of the stories have feelings of heartbreak and pity towards their mothers at the end of each of the stories, and the relationships they share with their mothers are problematic to say the least.…

On March 9, 2010 I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. She weighed six pounds, eleven ounces and was 21 inches long. Her beauty took my breath away. Once the doctor spanked her bottom and I heard her cry it was like music to my ears. As they placed her in my arms all of the pain I felt from my 14 hour delivery vanished. I felt as if I had just won an Olympic race and I came in 1st place. My trophy was this beautiful bundle of joy. My husband and I decided to name her Adrianna Renee. The emotional bond or attachment that I felt for my daughter had me speechless. Then the nurse told me they had to take her briefly to do some type of test on her called Apgar score. She explained to me that the test was a standard scoring system that allows the doctor to evaluate Adrianna’s condition quickly and objectively. At first I was skeptical because my daughter looked perfect in my eyes. So the nurse takes her from me to go have the test done and while they are gone the other nurses tend to my needs. It seemed like forever but it only took 10 minutes and they were done with the Apgar score. Adrianna had done great scoring a 10 the highest an infant can get meaning she was perfect like I knew she would be.…

I’ve been told the impact of a parent’s passing can carry on for years or forever. I was my mother’s primary care giver for two years. In her last four months, along with hospice, I took care of her full time along with maintaining my full time job. She passed in her home surrounded by me and my other two siblings in January. Just three months later my dad, who was not married to my mom, died unexpectedly in his sleep. I am still in the tender times of grief from my mother’s and father’s deaths. Who would think I could fathom writing about such a sorrowful time in addition to writing about the lessons I learned from my mother’s last months and the graceful way she left this earth. I relive this not only because it is kind of…

“It has been about four years or so since we last talked. Funny how times goes by, isn’t it; not that you would notice I’m gone since you found her. Now look at us, you’re engaged to a woman only because she has your child after a year or so of you complaining how horrible she is, and how you can’t wait for her to be out of your life. Was it all just some game to see if I would come back to you, and your sadistic ways? It’s odd now that I think of you, of what you ever said, of us. I suppose it is for the best, considering you would abuse my mind, soul, and on some awful occasions, my body in ways you would recoil at after it was done. You always blamed my actions for what happened to us, that I moved away and ruined it all. If I would have stayed, little do you know if I would have stayed my world would have become nothing but a faint memory of whomever my soul found next. Though not that you cared, as much as you said you did. I was dying in a home that no one knew of, and I am trapped in a body…

The "Mother's Embrace" by Nabil Anani is a painting depicting a woman who seems to be carrying a whole city in her arms. It could be interpreted as her way of showing her devotion to her hometown, to the freedom of the Palestine in Jerusalem that is the heart of conflict between Palestine and Israel. Her head is bent to the side towards the city she is carrying with her right hand, in my opinion as a way of showing her affection to it despite the conflict destroying her home. Another key element of the painting is the women's dress. The bottom part shows different sections with different people in each part of the dress. This leads us to believe that the people represented are her family or the people she values which she decides to move on…
