It was spring, and the weather was just right for softball season. Friday night, the big stadium lights were shining right down on us. We were actually here I thought to myself we really made it this far. My softball team and I were playing for a chance to go to the state tournament, which was something unexpected coming from a team that was never ranked in pre-season or throughout district but until now. Throughout our season we lost two games against a team that was good, but also had a lot of cockiness. San Rayburn was that team, and it so happened to be the team that we had to play to go to the state tournament as well.…

    Remember Vs

Death is the subject of both poems, Remember and The Cross of Snow, written by Christina Rossetti and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow respectively. The authors use many literary techniques, such as imagery, mood, and metaphors to explore the grieving process from two different perspectives, the dead in Remember and the living in The Cross of Snow. Although the poems have some similarities, they are also very different. While Longfellow's poem is about remembering and grieving, Rossetti's is about forgetting instead of mourning.…

This fabricated or distorted remembering of an event is called a false memory, however, never occurred in reality. Inaccurate information and erroneous attribution sources of an original information causes to recollect entirely false events. Also, the false memory can have profound implications that vivid and lively recollection of memory may reconstruct new memory. In addition, it can be created by poor understanding of the false memory that lead to terrible miscarriages of justice in legal system. “Every man’s memory is his private literature.” As illustrated in this quote from Huxley, individual memory can narrate a story that differs from documented events; it is through a combination of the two that we uncover a more reliable account. Peter Carey’s prose novel True History of the Kelly Gang and Christopher Nolan’s 2000 movie Memento represent history and memory in unique and evocative means by exploring the interplay between one’s individual perspective and the established ‘truth’.…

Nobuyoshi Araki is a japanese photographer and contemporary artist who was born on May 25, 1940. Araki worked in an advertising agency called “Dentsu” and on the year 2005 he had published over 350 book. He is still creating numerous more books every year and is regarded as one of the most creative artists in Japan and many more countries around the world. The specific artwork that will be analyzed is a series of photographs, “The days we were happy” which was created on 1972. Each photographs are paper print that are the size of 10x14.5 cm each. Three of the photographs I selected from the series, “The days we were happy” display images of a television, a woman cooking, and an old man. The three specific photographs are captured in an old and ripped photograph. Nobuyoshi Araki most certainly comments on the idea of memory as the title, “The days we were happy” is obviously talking about the past. All the photographs are black and white, therefore stressing the fact that these images are old and from the past. The first image that will be discussed is the television that looks like from the 40s to 50s era. This televison could have been Araki’s family television and one of the technologies he prized the most as it could be wear he would watch his shows at a young age all together with his family. The second image is of a woman cooking, which could possibly be his mother. Araki may have missed what his mother had cooked for him in the past when he was a child. The third image is of an old man who could have been is father or grandfather. The man in the image is shown with a huge smile on his face, which probably showed how much Araki missed the laughter this man gave to him. These images are all of what he missed and what made him happiest the most. The most important part of these photographs are the fact that they are all torn and dirty. The symbolism in this action of ripping the photographs, communicate upon how a photograph captures a…

The Longest Memory by Fred D'Aguiar is a compelling and tragically poignant novel set in Virginia, 1 810. The unique, fragmented narrations with its ironies and bigoted criticisms lurking in the words of many presents a definite ethical vision in which the reader commiserates with the suffering and f eels contempt for the savage. The calamity of the story and also its main ironic element centres on an old, veteran slave Whitechapel. He inadvertently causes the death of his son Chapel in the hands of the overseer of the plantation, who just so happens to be Chapel's halfbrother. Prejudice shatter s any faith of justice, equality and freedom in The Longest Memory, and acts to enhance the immorali ty of slavery and the horrible suffering of slaves. This is achieved through both the emphatic chara cterisations of the slaves, and tragedy of Chapel's death.…

    Hammramck Memories

Hamtramck is a place of memories. Truthfully speaking, Hamtramck seemed boring to me. I moved here two years ago, and I absolutely hated it. I came from a very populated and walking-distance state; New York. Coming from such a place to a smaller one was a huge change. Immaturely, I’d compare everything. “Why don’t people ever walk?” and “New York is so much better.” Personally, looking back, my reasonings to hate Hamtramck didn’t make sense. I never went out or did anything, so I guess making up unrealistic reasonings to hate this place justified the new change in my own eyes. It was like that for roughly two months, up until I began attending Highschool.…
