A true patriot is someone how is in agreement with his country’s basic beliefs and principles. However, sometimes the current government does not live up to the countries ideals in practice. It is at these times that a true patriot must oppose these practices. Sometimes this means breaking the laws and going against the ruling government; however one must conduct oneself with a sense of morality and pure motives.

A patriotic man Henry David Thoreau, a writer from the 1800’, said in his essay, “Men generally, under such a government as this, think that they ought to wait until they have persuaded the majority to alter them.”(16) This means that most people usually try to fix things by trying to persuade the majority of the people or government that the practices that the government is doing is wrong. But sometimes there things that are unjust that need to be changed immediately. Sometimes these legal ways take too long and need to be changed immediately or trying to persuade the majority of the people was unsuccessful.
If legal means are unsuccessful a true patriot would use non violent methods, and sometimes this includes breaking the laws. Even thou true patriots sometimes break the law they still follow their moral codes. This means they break the laws but never use violent methods....
