My Christmas
For most of my childhood the only time I saw most of my family was on Holidays. Of course sometimes people couldn't show, but not once do I remember someone not showing for Christmas. Everyone was always there no matter what the sacrifice was.

Christmas was always at my Grandmas home. The house always had a magical look, like a little slice of heaven. The lighting was just right, not to bright not to dark, it gave you a warm, safe, cozy feeling. The Christmas tree had white lights and maroon and gold bows every Christmas.

When you walked in to the house you heard people laughing people telling jokes, (mostly my dad) and people just having a good time. The T.V. was always on football or the news, you could hear my mom and my aunt in the kitchen TRYING to help my grandma cook. You could also hear some birds and animals moving around outside.

The feeling I got wile Christmas at my grandmas was a feeling I will never forget. It was always a loving feeling, a feeling you only get when your with the ones you love, a feeling you look forward to everyday, a feeling I miss very much. This last Christmas was the last one with my grandma. We celebrated it with her in the hospital but our spirts where not down, we where still joking and trying to have the best time we could. I have to say her hospital room was the best looking one there. We had a small tree and little decorations all over the room.

And that is how I have been spending Christmas for the past 13 years. I will never forget all the times my family and I have shared with each

All the good moments that I once had with my beloved ones have a very special space in my heart. Some of the most special moments that I can know remember would mean nothing if I had not the company and warm of my family. Among all these important moments, I can know remember all the Christmas Eve, when my father and I used to launch fireworks and then would come with the rest of the family around the manger.…

Although, we may not always get together that often, we still try to stay as close as we can. We have a countless amount a traditions we go through every year, small and big. Every Christmas is spent at the grandparents, and my aunt and mom switch off every year for thanksgiving. These are the main cliche holiday traditions that we keep as a whole. Yet, my mom, brother and I like to get away to keep a tradition for ourselves. Every year we would sneak away from family and go to Panama City Beach. It gave us all time to relax from everything and just be able to do what ever we wanted. There was no power over any one and we just lived life care free for a couple weeks. Many of these traditions we have as a family make us closer every…

Everything was so enjoyable the Christmas morning. All the young adults were mingling, all the kids were playing video games, and all the older adults, or elders, were bragging about achievements that their kids have accomplished throughout that year. One thing that I remember strongly is how all the cousins were getting along for one…

A Christmas Tradition that the family has is to decorate the house all together (inside and out) and they all stay up together until the house is finished. Another tradition is that they have a big family dinner on Christmas Eve and the family stays up until midnight and each of them open one gift until the next day. A final tradition that this family has is their New Year’s tradition: on New Year’s Day, the family spends the whole day together and they play board games and watch movies as a…

Holiday to me, mean well needed time spent with my family. Now, don’t get me wrong, I see my family a lot- I just don’t see all of them at once. Thanksgiving 2011 brought my family together more than it usually would. It was the year after we had lost my grandfather, and his brother in-law Richard (or Uncle Dickey as my cousins and I called him) had terminal lung cancer, with his health deteriorating quickly. Uncle Dickey was married to my grandfather’s sister, Lois. Pappy and Aunt Lois had the closest relationship of their nine siblings, and they were the youngest. Though Pappy’s family didn’t have very much money growing up, they always had each other. That’s why family was so important to me, because I was taught even when you have next to nothing; your family will be next to you. And so, losing my grandfather and finding out my Uncle was terminal, it felt like I was losing every one.…

Sadly, we do not have the luxury of visiting our relatives every year but, we have gone twice during Christmas and New Year, and Christmas was celebrated quite differently. During these trips I learned a lot about my heritage and the importance of tradition. You don’t hear the words Santa Claus, and children don’t receive presents on Christmas Day. Instead, we celebrate Dia de los Reyes, or Three Kings’ Day which is celebrated on January 6th .This special holiday commemorates the three wise men who traveled a distance to bring gifts for the infant baby Jesus. Aside from this holiday, we also participated in las posadas, it is a reenactment of Mary and Joseph’s arrival in Bethlehem, performed just before Christmas. Young adults perform these reenactments as they ride on donkey in the rancho, searching for hospitality. Once they are turned away three times, the entire community gathers together at the local church for warm bowls of pozole and mugs of chocolate (Mexican hot chocolate). This reenactment is crucial to our tradition as it is performed several times leading up to Christmas. During my stay in Mexico and participating in all these holidays I learned that there is much more to life than receiving the most gifts during the holidays. My stay there taught me to be humble and to value the important…

Also every year since 1968 my family has always gone down to our Manasota beach house and celebrated Christmas Eve down there. Ever sense I was little I remember going down there every year. It was not just my immediate family but it was with the whole family. Every year we would always go to a church service. After the Church service there was always a petting zoo, so every year, if we were good in church we would get to feed them. We brought little snacks to feed them, like carrots or celery and it would always help us get through the mass while still being good. Finally after church and feeding the animals it was time to go back to Mommom’s, that’s my grandma, house to eat.…

    Best Christmas Ever

Every year I have a great Christmas spending valuable time with family and friends. This past Christmas was the best I’ve ever had. I received the best unexpected gift ever! It all started when everyone in my family came to my house early Christmas morning for breakfast. After breakfast we started passing out gifts. First, we would usually go in a huge circle and everyone would open one gift at a time. This time was different and very odd to me. My family would let everyone open a gift and would skip me. At first, I wondered why I didn’t get my turn yet, but then, I thought to myself that something was up. After a while, my family let me open some of my gifts so that I wouldn’t suspect anything. Next, my whole family huddled up whispering to each other. I then knew that something wasn’t right which made me get a little angry. After my family’s little huddle, they handed me a card. As I read the card, I come across the words,” You will be going on a 7 day cruise to Mexico!” I stood up screaming to the top of my lungs with enjoyment. I cried happy tears because I never expected to go on a cruise especially without my parents. All of my family members rushed to me and gave me a big hug. My grandmother and I cried together in joy and sadness because she was happy for me but at the same time, she didn’t want to see her oldest grandchild leave the country without her being there with me. Over all, my family gave me some advice on what to do and what not to do while I’m on the cruise. I had a great time on the cruise and got to learn about a different culture from mines. It was a unforgettable experience and I would never forget the best Christmas…

Christmas has always been my favorite holiday of the year. As a child it was the one time of year that I thought I could get a glimpse of Santa Clause leaving me presents. What an exciting memory. I wish I could go back to when I was little. To this day, I always look forward to waking up early in the morning to be the first person to look at all the presents and then going to church. It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Our house is warm with the spirit of Christmas. The best part of Christmas is feeling the warmth of love of family and friends coming together to celebrate the best holiday season.…
