my camping trip
It was the summer before school of 2000. I was about to enter my sophomore year of high school when my life was changed forever. I never could have imagined what happened during that final weekend before school.

My best friend Dylan since the first grade and I decided we should do something adventurous before the start of school. The only problem was what we should do. The regular group of friends didn't like to do anything except play videogames and watch movies, but Dylan and I liked to do wild and crazy things sometimes. We enjoyed rock climbing and water skiing, but our friends never got involved with things of that sort. Now, Dylan and I liked video games and movies, but this summer we wanted to do something exiting.

As the first day of school was getting near, a senior at my school named Dave said to me, "Hey, you and Dylan want to come along on a camping trip with some of my friends. I immediately shouted out, "Yes, we sure would! I knew this was it, so I called Dylan right away and said, "Guess where we are going this weekend? and he said, "where? By the sound of his voice, I could tell that he was puzzled but yet very exited. So, I to also got excited.
There is nothing worse than thinking that you could have a zillion bugs crawling around underneath you, and you wouldn't even know it. There is also nothing worse than hearing the short, high pitched screech of a black furious bat flying above your head. One could possibly experience both of these two things while camping out in the wilderness. My first experience camping was when I was 8 years old, with my favorite Grandfather Al. He really had me convinced that I was going to have the best time of my life on this camping trip. We would fish, swim, barbecue, hunt, and many more "fun things. Going camping is something that everyone needs to experience at least once in their life. This particular camping trip was one I will never forget.

I was forced along a journey that I never could have expected. The next year was the worst of my life.…

This trip wasn’t like the others, it was a vacation compared to the other high adventure camps. We flew down to Miami and drove to the base, which was in the Florida Keys. The next day we took two warrior canoes, which were canoes the fit about seven people in each, and paddled five miles out to and island where we would stay for the next six days. Instead of hiking or climbing mountains, our trip consisted of tenting out on an island where we fished, snorkeled and kayaked for the next week. My favorite part about this trip was relaxing in a hammock for hours watching the tides change. This was a dramatic change from my two previous summers of hard labor and exhausting hiking and canoeing; but it taught me that hard work pays…

Camping and being in the outdoors has been a significant part of my life for the last eight years. As a child, I never enjoyed it much. Three years ago, my family along with four other families decided to take a trip to Glacier National Park. The sky-piercing mountains and the beautiful lakes urged me to explore the outdoors more. From hiking through the mountainous trails to driving up the mountains through the Going-to-the-Sun road, I finally began to realize the relief and soothing sense that nature had to offer. Despite the love I finally found in the outdoors, I was never the dedicated and…

year that almost didn’t happen for me. I walked into Davis Middle School on a bright and early morning. I took a seat in my first period. “We will be having a test next Tuesday. I have made a study guide for you all. It is graded for completion.” Mrs.Snyder announced. Everyone groans as she proceeded to pass out the packets. I stuff mine in my bag and walk out. That afternoon after school, I was playing my computer with my friends in my room. The house was quiet. My mom searches in my backpack and grabs the study guide. “Huy, don’t you have to work on this math study guide?” my…
