The first piece “ San Diego Civic Dance Arts: Bollywood”- a dance of Indian-had a very interesting sound with beautiful dancers. There were a lot of girls and one boy dancing in the front. The music part sounded the best so that it became faster toward the end. The second piece is Philippine music. It was very easy to hear. It had a slow tempo at the beginning with dancers. It was longer than the first piece. The third performance with named “ San Diego Civic Dance Arts : Knock Knock” mostly a dance, with dancers. The next performance was Sol E Mar. All of them had a good posture, and a good tone. However, I suggest that they could have fewer violins, or more of other instruments. The group played ten pieces throughout the concert. The pieces were the Introduction and Tarantella by Pablo Sarasate, Pezzo Capriccioso Op. 62 by Peter Tchaikovsky, Violin Concerto in D major by Johannes Brahms, Barcarolle in F major by Fryderyk Chopin, Piano Concerto no.2 in F major by Fryderyk Chopin, Clarinet Concerto no.1, in F by Carl Maria von Weber, Caprice no.24 in A minor by Niccolo Paganini, Vioiln Concerto no.2 by Henryk Wieniawski, Etude-Tableauz Op. 39 no.9 by Sergei Rachmaninov and Piano Converto no.3 in C minor by Ludwig van…

The concert that I chose to attend was the Gramophone award winners, Pavel Haas Quartet. Veronika Jaruskova, Marek Zxiebel, Pavel Nikl, and Peter Jarusek were the musicians. They were all very talented. Their movements were amazing and no matter the difficulty, they stayed in time with one another. The songs they chose to perform were Quartet No. 1 in B minor, Op. 50 by the composer Prokofiev, Quartet No. 11 in F minor, Op. 95 “Serioso” by Beethoven, and Quartet No. 5, Sz. 102 by Bartok. All these pieces were amazing both in difficulty and sound.…

The first thing that caught my eyes was the colorful and unique dance regalia or outfit worn by the dancers. Bright colors such as yellow, orange, red, and light blue wrapped around the dancers beautifully. The older looking male dancers were wearing the feather warbonnets on the head and bustles on the back. Dancers with striking multicolored beaded and fringed outfits were crowding the dance floor. Some of the female dancers dressed simple with their colorful fringed shawls. I noticed that some dancers even had bells attached to their ankles or dance outfits that they wore. I also was told that the feathers and leathers used were inherited from their father up to their great grandfather. The sight was so magnificent – it made me excited to stay for the show.…

The dance show that I went to was called Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. The place of the performance is 131 W 55th Street between 6th and 7th avenues. The date and time of the performance was Saturday, Dec 16, 2017 at 2:00pm. I was 20 minutes late to the first performance because of the heavy traffic, but i did see a portion of the first dance. Heysel and I both saw this dance performance together.…

I went to see Overture to King Stephen, Op. 117 and Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 36, both composed by Ludwig van Beethoven and performed by Los Angeles Philharmonic at Disney Hall on December 31 2012. The music group consisted of about sixty-three bowed string instrumentalists, ten woodwind instrumentalists, nine brass instrumentalists and four percussion instruments and the conductor is Esa-Pekka Salonen.…

The first part is Festival Chorus. They have organized very well. There are a lot of kids sing on the stage. All the songs are well prepared; everyone performs different parts in a song. All of them mix in a perfect way, it sounds much more professional. Sometimes cadence, while sometimes is melodious. I really enjoy them. The audiences give a shower of applause to all the singers. This first part is a really good start of the entire concert.…

The last extra piece featured was Trio where three artists were featured. In this piece the meter stays as compound but the tempo accelerates and becomes allegro. The instruments featured in this piece were oboe and flutes. It was one of the best pieces of the concert. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the concert.…

Butterfly Dances was probably my favorite from that entire night. It is a set of variations from traditional Chinese folk songs which Root had expanded into viable melodies. It sounded to be in ABA form, but also seemed to be in symphonic form. It was very beautiful. You could hear the fluttering of butterfly wings from the wind section of the band. The last movement was more dark than the rest. It had a forte and mezzo forte dynamic, as well as there was some ritardando and crescendo in the piece. The tempo changed between vivace, allegro and andante. I really enjoyed it. Thomas Root really got way into conducting. He was jumping and flailing his arms all over, which was rather entertaining.…

The first song of the evening was ‘Tear and Alnmena’. All the audience was captivated when it began. The opening of this music was like another mood’s music more than Jazz as any other country’s traditional music. Totally, the mood of this music was dark and mysterious. The sound of the bass clarinet which I saw first was freshly, and trombone’s main solo playing was also new feature in this concert.…

The performance started out with the musicians entering the room one by one as they played and opening song, and settling down in their positions. I really enjoyed the movement and the energy they brought with them into the room because it seemed to wake most of the audience up, as some had been waiting for a while. One of my favorite sounds to hear within the music was that of the tuba, which provided the bassline heartbeat. It…

Unlike the first concert I went to a few months ago this one actually grabbed my attention. Every ensemble was very talented and something different to bring to the table. The many songs performed in the concert were all very well put together pieces. Though out of the eleven songs played I picked three of which I really enjoyed the most. All three songs were performed by the first ensemble directed by Mark Buselli. The first song was That Old Black Magic. The song contained a brief saxophone solo that was played very swiftly. I found the song particularly interesting because it was…

The concert was labeled on youtube as a Bangladesh concert. The musical artists played Indian music, and there didn’t seem to be a composer. Every one just seemed to know how to play together. By being an active listener I learned that different cultures sometimes have very different musical styles. Most musical styles touch on all elements of SHMRGO. It was really neat to see how differently Indian music is put together. It’s obvious that they’re extremely talented musicians because they have to incorporate twice as many notes (semi-tones and quarter-tones) than whats typical to us, and they all did it so well. The type of instruments I think were used were the chordophones sitar, santoor, ektara, and the getnu. Also, I think either a bansuri, a venu, or a fiti was used (aerophones); and I’m almost positive that the dhad was played percussion wise. I think these instruments were played, but there were definitely a lot more instruments played than just these. The mood of concert definitely seemed like it was met to interpret happiness and excitement. As I mentioned, there was no one composer. However, the artists did communicate with each other through body language, and that was really interesting to watch play out.The Bangladesh concert performance was definitely interesting and educational, but for the most part it wasn’t pleasing to my ears, simply because I’m not accustomed to the style of music that was played. I completely respect the music that was played, and I honor that it’s different from the music that I listen to. To be frank, the pieces sounded like organized chaos. However, over it time it may become something I’d listen to for fun. Watching this concert definitely made me curious as to what different cultures think when they hear musical styles that are common to…
