ABSTRACT
This Paper proposes a solution to deliver an unlimited Mobile TV service offer over an unlimited coverage area to an unlimited number of users. The service is already operational in western countries in unicast mode on 3g networks. It provides an overview of this innovative mobile broadcast solution, its air interface features and key performance figures, and shows how it can address Mobile TV market challenges.
To guarantee its success in our country, the Mobile TV market needs:
• A business model based on a monthly fee subscription allowing unlimited usage at a guaranteed quality of service.
• A service coverage compatible with GSM, with a cost effective
implementation.

INEERING AND TECHNOLOGY

It uses high power, geostationary satellites and low power terrestrial repeaters, both
operating in the 2170-2200 MHz frequency band. This 30 MHz spectrum is an IMT2000 band allocated to Mobile Satellite Systems. It is currently available in Europe and Asia. This band is adjacent to the T-UMTS Frequency Division Duplexing down link band (2110 – 2170 Mhz), which enables technology and implementation synergies with the UMTS technology at the terminal and terrestrial repeater level.

Network Coverage
The satellites can provide indoor and outdoor coverage in rural areas under spot beams. Even though a spot beam (typically 700 - 1000 km in diameter) may cover several countries, the capacity can be shared between different language or cultural multimedia services. The satellites are complemented by terrestrial repeaters to address indoor coverage in urban areas, where satellite signals suffer severe blockages. Terrestrial repeaters... [continues]
