SECTION A:POETRY
ON THE ROAD AGAIN
1. The candidate must critically discuss the poem Daughter of the soil. In the discussion, the candidate must exhibit knowledge in analyzing a poem. In the discussion, the candidate must establish the sense of the poem. What is the poem about? In the discussion, the candidate should also delve into the intention of the poet, feelings of the poem and the tone of the poem. The poem which is about a female soldier who is narrating the death of a colleague in a battle. Nyamubaya who has a feminist bias, chronicles how the freedom fighter perishes.

Nyamubaya succinctly exposes that the female freedom fighter did not die in vain and that death did not signal the demise of the quest to attain freedom, but propelled the hope in others. The introduction should be focused and would be rewarded with a maximum of three marks. The body should develop the main ideas noted in the poem. It should look at the sense, intention, feeling, tone, diction, style, imagery and metaphors. The body would be rewarded with a maximum of twenty marks. Lastly, the conclusion should summatively look at the main points raised in the discourse. Two marks would be rewarded for a very good conclusion. 2. The candidate has to define what feminism entails and which poems have a feministic bias. Poems such as daughter of the soil. On the Road Again, Home Sweat home should be mentioned. Nyamubaya explicitly shows how women are eulogised and given a high status ahead of the male counterparts. In poems, Nyamubaya shows bravery of women, invincibility of women and the hope that women stand for. In the discussion, it should be noted that it is not always the case that Nyamubaya shows a feminist bias. A focused introduction would be rewarded with three marks, body twenty marks and a conclusion two marks. SECTION B: PROSE

3. The candidate has to discuss the effects of education on characters. Reference has to be made on such stories as The Hero:- -One becomes rebellions
-One goes against the standing norms of society

4. Candidates should look at the concept of self destruction and how it manifests. Effort should be made by candidates to include some of the following in their answers. - Selling a wife and then the issue resurfacing after sometime - Being impulsive such that he tells all his secrets to Farfrae - Consulting a weather prophet and attributing everything to tradition while negating science -Being poor at judgment, hence make uninformed decisions
