ELTU 3110 M | CAMPUS IMPROVEMENT FUND PROPOSAL |

Executive summary
This year, the 334 curriculum has started. Together with the AL entrants, the total number of CUHK students has dramatically increased. This causes the problem of resource allocation in different aspects. School bus service is particularly facing a resource deficiency. The school has already carried out a series of measures to alleviate the problem. However, according to the survey we conducted, students still have to wait for a long time before they can get on the bus. If the queue is too long, they may even choose to walk to the lecture rooms. However, it is very time-consuming and energy-demanding.
Therefore, we have come up with an innovative idea to help solve this problem – Bicycle Rental Service in CUHK Campus. Not only can it reduce our dependence on school bus service, but also can help promote the healthy lifestyle. We aim to provide this service to all students and staff.
Before the execution of our idea, we have conducted a survey to investigate the feasibility and market demand of this service. We have also used the 4Ps marketing analysis to provide a comprehensive framework for the whole program. We have also taken into account the concerns about the safety issue and provide solutions. Detailed budgeting has also been provided so as to make best use of the $100,000 campus improvement fund. The Bicycle Rental Service is expected to be sustainable.

Since 1993, Safe Rides has been providing the Elon student body an invaluable service by offering late-night transportation Thursdays through Saturday. While Safe Rides is currently able to transport just under 2,000 students a month, there is a rising trend in demand resulting in wait-times that consistently surpass three hours. During the 2016-2017 academic year Safe Rides has already successfully integrated an additional sedan to the fleet, yet even with the additional vehicle it has become evident that on nights with minimal volunteers and high call rates, it is a hardship to maintain timely transportation. To help diminish such delays, and to ensure that Safe Rides is providing the best possible service with the goal of protecting the well-being of Elon University’s student body, Safe Rides is actively pursuing the acquisition of a new six-passenger van. With the addition of another six-passenger van (increasing our six-passenger fleet to 3), there would be greater efficiency and a substantial increase in the number of Elon students Safe Rides is able to transport each night.…

Car sharing is an economical and eco-friendly mode of transportation that is designed to fulfill a just-in-time need for personal access to passenger cars. This transportation network encourages people to be socially and environmentally responsible by minimizing private vehicle ownership. Car sharing started gaining popularity in the early 1990s in Europe. Today, such fleet of automobiles operates in 600 cities around the world, in 18 nations, and 4 continents. In the United States, a Massachusetts based car-sharing company Zipcar is the industry leader with over 400,000 users in 13 major cities, and 150 college campuses. Zipcar mainly operates in urban areas and in college towns where car ownership is lower and parking is expensive and/or limited. People are enjoying the convenience of reserving the car over the phone or online for a nominal fee on an hourly or per day basis. The cost of service includes the fuel, car maintenance, and insurance charges. Currently, the main goal of Zipcar is to enter into a new market segment at the University of New Orleans in New Orleans, Louisiana. Hence, the 4 P’s marketing team has developed an extensive marketing plan to introduce this revolutionary transit system to a much deserving community of the University of New Orleans. Based on our analysis, a public relation strategy is a very effective marketing strategy that can give Zipcar’s car sharing service on campus. Even though there are many hurdles to overcome in order to implement Zipcar on UNO’s campus, our implementation schedule has the full Zipcar transportation service on campus in the beginning of the Spring 2011 school semester..…

The Black Cat and The Tell-Tale Heart both are famous novels. “The author Edgar Allan Poe (born Edgar Poe; January 19, 1809 – October 7, 1849) was an American author, poet, editor and literary critic, considered part of the American Romantic Movement. Best known for his tales of mystery and the macabre, Poe was one of the earliest American practitioners of the short story and is generally considered the inventor of the detective fiction genre. He is further credited with contributing to the emerging genre of science fiction. He was the first well-known American writer to try to earn a living through writing alone, resulting in a financially difficult life and career” (wiki). “‘The Black Cat’ is a short story by Edgar Allan Poe. It was first published in the August 19, 1843, edition of The Saturday Evening Post. It is a study of the psychology of guilt, often paired in analysis with Poe's "The Tell-Tale Heart". In both, a murderer carefully conceals his crime and believes himself unassailable, but eventually breaks down and reveals himself, impelled by a nagging reminder of his guilt” (wiki). “‘The Tell-Tale Heart’ is a short story by Edgar Allan Poe first published in 1843. It is told by an unnamed narrator who endeavors to convince the reader of his sanity, while describing a murder he committed. (The victim was an old man with a blind "vulture eye", as the narrator calls it.) The murder is carefully calculated, and the murderer hides the body by dismembering it and hiding it under the floorboards. Ultimately the narrator's guilt manifests itself in an auditory hallucination: the narrator hears the man's heart still beating under the floorboards” (wiki). However, these two novels have the same narration and theme, imagery and tone.…
