The Blind Side was a 2009 American semi-biographical drama film written and directed by John Lee Hancock, and based on the 2006 book The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game by Michael Lewis. It featured Michael Oher, an offensive linesman who played for the Baltimore Ravens of the NFL. Homeless and traumatized, Michael “Big Mike” Oher was absorbed in Wingate Christian School through the help of his friend’s father who talked to Burt Cotton, the coach of the said school, who was fascinated and impressed by Mike’s size and athleticism. Sullied and underprivileged as he was, most of the students shun him except a boy named Sean Jr. “SJ” who befriended him. On their way home after a late night Thanksgiving school play, Leigh Anne Tuohy and Sean Tuohy, SJ’s parents, spotted Michael walking on the road, shivering in the cold. After learning that he has no place to stay, intends to spend the night outside the school gym, and is one of her daughter’s classmates, Leigh Anne eagerly offered him – wearing shorts and a t-shirt in the dead of winter- to spend the night in their house. Michael has been in foster care with different families throughout Memphis, Tennessee. He was considered a runaway. Well, that’s how the state called him. Asked to spend the holiday with Leigh Anne and her family, he slowly became a part of the family tree. Bashfulness and introversion gradually left the frame of his mind. Leigh Anne’s rich friends wondered what she was doing and much more bothered of the reason why. Apparently, they were protesting against the fact that Leigh Anne sought for being Michael’s legal guardian. As Leigh Anne continued ascertaining more about Michael’s identity, she discovered his pitiable upbringing. She learned that he was separated from his drug-addict mother when he was seven and that no one knew her whereabouts. Rummaging more on his school records, she found out that although he scored very low almost in every category in the Career Aptitude Test, he was in the 98th percentile in “protective instincts”. Finally, she found out that she could be Michael’s legal guardian after supplying some papers without telling his real mother. Leigh Anne, however, decided to search for Michael’s mother and inform her of her plans. Enthralled in football, Michael was allowed to join the school team after improving his grades. His polite and gentle nature initiated a shaky start but after some encouragement from Leigh Anne, who tapped into his “protective instincts” regarding his teammates as members of his family, he started dominating the field. SJ sent out videos of Michael’s games to college coaches all over the country and so various coaches from various Universities knocked at their door bringing their own offers in order to persuade him best since they wanted him so bad. After discovering that to get a NCAA Division 1 scholarship, Michael needed a 2.5 GPA, Leigh Anne hired a tutor, Miss Sue. Some of his teachers also helped out so he ended with a 2.52 GPA. Since she and her husband were alumni, Leigh Anne made it clear that she wanted Michael to choose University of Mississippi over other recruiting schools. His tutor also told him that the rival school, University of Tennessee, works with the FBI and buries body parts under the Stadium for research. Consequently, Michael, who disliked horror films, commits to Ole Miss (University of Mississippi). Because of this, Michael and the Tuohys became the subject of an NCAA investigation. The investigator told Michael that the Tuohys and Miss Sue are fervent Mississippi boosters, who were subject to special restrictions, and his high school coach got a job at Ole Miss after Michael chose the school. Troubled by all these misleading theories, Michael confronted Leigh Anne about the purity of her intentions. He evidently believed that Leigh Anne had done all these...
