“In art theory, formalism is the concept that a work’s artistic value is entirely determined by its form—the way it is made, its purely visual aspects, and its medium. Formalism emphasizes compositional elements such as color, line, shape and texture rather than realism, context, and content.” . In Hero, Zhang Yimou combines cinematography with mise en scène to bring his own vision of the story, particularly with the use of certain colours. There are a total of five colours in this movie which choosed to express different versions or point of views ; black, white, red, blue, and green. Zhang Yimou uses the four colours, Red, Green, Blue and White, to tie in four different segments of the story. On the other hand, each of them also contains a different story…

Although Lennie is among the principal characters in Of Mice and Men, he is perhaps the least dynamic. He undergoes no significant changes, development, or growth throughout the story and remains exactly as the reader encounters him in the opening pages. Simply put, he loves to pet soft things, is blindly devoted to George and their vision of the farm, and possesses incredible physical strength. Nearly every scene in which Lennie appears confirms these and only these characteristics.…

In numerous works of literature, a character that may not even appear at all in the course of the story carries a significant presence affecting the development of the plot throughout the novel. In Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer, the author indicates that Oskar’s deceased father plays an eloquent role in the development of the plot. As a result of his father’s presence, Oskar goes on a trek throughout New York, eventually is able to connect and create a bond with his grandfather, and the theme of loss is centered around Oskar’s father’s death.…

Do you ever look far into a movie or TV series enough to know what the producers are actually showing or what point they want to get across? Many action television series show either the four personality archetypes, narrative archetypes, or Freud’s theory. Narrative archetypes are one’s that stick out to me the most because the archetype shows that there are many different characters throughout the TV series. The television show, Arrow, shows narrative archetypes with the hero, trickster and witch, and the wise old man.…

On page seven the author says, “...the muttering and growling of the sea breaking on a rocky shore...” I don’t think the sea can “mutter” or “growl”; these are both human abilities. The sea does not naturally have these human traits (even though it can be argued that it has very similar traits), therefore this is personification.…
