“Touching the void” a story that’s based on friendship, trust and bravery. In 1985 Joe Simpson and Simon Yates went on a journey to climb a mountain, in the West Face of Siula Grande, Peruvian Andes. Joe and Simon climbed 6,344-metre (20,813 foot) and after they attempt to climb the mountain, Joe broke his leg which climbing down the mountain. It took them longer to get down then they got up the mountain. One snowy night as they still try to climb down very slowly, Joe went over the edge and has no way of getting down. Simon held on for so long as he could but he wanted to let go because Joe wasn’t moving then Simon had enough and cut the rope. Simon was hoping the Joe had die and left Joe there under the ice with a broken leg. As Joe woke up under the ice, Joe was in shocked and he was thing it time to die. Joe never gives up and praying that he’ll get out.
2. Interviewing Joe Simpson
Reporter- me
Reporter- Why didn’t you give it up when you know that you were in deep trouble?
Joe Simpson- Well with me and my broken leg, it was hard. And I did think that I didn’t have a chance but I didn’t want to give up so easily, so I tried every ways I can to get myself out of under the ice.
Reporter- Very interesting thankyou Joe. Joe when you fell of the edge with your broken leg and you could feel any parts of your body. How did you feel when Simon cut the rope?
Joe Simpson- Honestly, I couldn’t believe it. But he had to do what he had to do. Because the snow was getting heavy and plus me tied around him, it was be hard and I would do the same with him.
Reporter- Thankyou for answering. Ok one more question for you Joe, if Simon was in your position, would you cut the rope?
Joe Simpson- Ha, well honestly yes I would cut the rope. Because as the weather such as that night, I couldn’t have more weight tied on me while the snow is covering me and the wind was to strong.
