What salient opportunities and threats exist in Motorola's external environment?

Observing the history of Motorola, they have this wide variety of products that they offer to different kinds of market. This strategy of Motorola will only be dealing in the development of the latest technology, gadgets and mobile phones by proper research and development. They have this strong promotional strategy by which they are using different tools that attracts customers towards the thrilling era of innovation. Motorola also extended their products and expanding their reach in making their products appear worldwide and through different foreign countries.

However, Motorola also faced some external threats that contribute and affect their business operations. In the telecommunications industry, Motorola has these giant competitors like Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Apple, etc. that is highly competitive in the said industry. Another threat is that United States is facing this economic recession that can hardly affect their production and sales. It has greatly affected the companies operating in the domestic markets and the demand of the customers. Another possible threat that Motorola encounter is that the firm lacks sufficient suppliers and they have limited supplier for some inputs are only provided by single supplier and caused supply shortages. What are the company's most prominent strengths and weaknesses?

Motorola positioned itself as a strong company by teaming up and acquiring other companies like Bell Telephone Company, Cisco, General Instrument Corporation that allowed them to produce state of the art technology. It is considered as leader of innovations and has first-mover advantage for being the first one to produce walkie-talkie, Motorola DynaTAC phone – the first commercial cellular phone and other products.
