Collaborative communication entails the participation of all members with each stating his or her point of view clearly and concisely as possible. The conflicting viewpoints are common most often with each side presenting the rational basis of its point of view. However, through achievement motivation, attribution, and self-determination these can have a negative or positive effect. Achievement motivation is the need to perform well or striving for success and is proof by persistence and effort in the face of difficulties also regarded as a central human motivation.
However, the attribution theory is the concept that individuals make sense of their surroundings on the basis of what they consider is the cause and the effect. It suggests that individuals observe their own behavior and experiences to discover what causes this behavior, and to shape their future behavior accordingly. Although in the trucking industry these elements are essential communication, achievement motivation, and drive, self determination, attribution can have a negative or positive affect
McDaniel Trucking successfully has trained 75 drivers in a two year “time period.” Before any trainee can be in a vehicle he or she would be qualified to operate a commercial vehicle, pass a drug screening, and a physical. Darrell Davis is a senior trainer manager; he has been at McDaniel trucking every day for two years.
Some of the requirements of Darrell’s job are to ensure that three out of five students successfully has completed the course in one year. In June, Darrell has a student to teach the skills of working individually with consumers, backing up to docks doors, hooking up, and disconnecting from trailers. Students had to learn how to communicate with the employer through satellite communication each time the vehicle comes to a stop.
