Management plays several different roles but one major role is Communication. Communication is a transfer of understanding and meaning from one person to another (p. 320). Everything that management does involve communication. Communication is verbally as well as non-verbally. Ex. You must know how to write. If you’re writing some information down to present to your employees and when you have poor writing skills, they wouldn’t understand what you’re trying to say. That’s because you have poor communication skills. Nothing can take place without communication. A business wouldn’t survive without good and effective communication. A person can’t manage a business if he or she speaks broken English? Your employees wouldn’t be able to understand you. I had a manager that was from Russia and he spoke broken English. He didn’t like to repeat himself, but we couldn’t figure out what he was saying. To avoid embarrassment, the result was he transferred to another department. Ineffective communication skills can result in errors for a management. Ex. My educational trainer was telling me “that she needed to change my password in order for me to do my training on OSHA.” I told her “that she would have to contact national because I was the trainer on night shift before I came on day shift.” She totally ignored me and kept on doing the procedure to change my password. It still didn’t work because when I logged back in, it still put me as an Administrator user. She finally said “Oh now I understand what you’re trying to say, I do need to contact national.” The 20 minutes that was spent for this was lack of communication. When you take the time to read, write, and listen you will have better communication.

The communication process takes place through the sender, encoding, the message, channel, decoding, receiver, and feedback. The sender is the person who is sending the message. Encoding is converting the information in another format. The message is the words spoken, written, picture painted or gestures made. Channel is the way a message travels and is determined by the person who is receiving it whether the message is formal or informal. A receiver is whom the message is intended for. Decoding is translating into the original language or form. A receiver should know how to read or listen and be able to reason. Feedback is giving your thoughts or opinion of what the message is about that was sent to you.
Ayame Nakamura is from Japanese. She may not speak English very well or is not used to the way Americans’ do things and that can interfere with her cultural background. In the United States our communication pattern is different. Management relies on sending out memos, announcements, position papers and other forms of communication to inform you on issues. Japanese managers engage in extensive verbal consultation with their employees over an issue first and draw up a formal document later to outline the agreement that was made. The Japanese value decisions by consensus and open communication is an essential part of the work settings. Cultural differences can affect the way a manager chooses to communicate and these can cause issues if not dealt with and taken into consideration.

There are many techniques that can be used to motivate Ayame. Those techniques are getting feedback from the manager, using a more simplified language, listening actively, constrain emotions, and using nonverbal clues. Feedback can be done by the manager asking questions to make sure his message is understood. Simplified language is using words that your receiver can understand exactly what you’re saying to the point where it wouldn’t be misunderstood. Listening actively is listening to someone and hearing what he or she is saying before you start interpreting what the message is. Constrain emotions is experiencing emotions to the point where you can’t think or hear clearly. Getting upset because someone doesn’t understand you isn’t going to solve the issue. Being calm and possessing a level head, and explaining to that person what you’re saying can solve the problem. Using nonverbal clues such as making sure your actions line up with your word (Robbins, Decenzo, & Coulter, 2011, p. 326- 329).

With good communication skills you can accomplish your goals and plan. Using these techniques management can have a successful business and less stress. If something that you said didn’t come across clearly to your audience, they wouldn’t be intimated to ask you to please clarify yourself, knowing that it wouldn’t be a big issue for you. Having good communication skills will make management job and yours easier.   Reference

    Motivation is a basic psychological process. A recent data-based comprehensive analysis concluded that competitiveness problems appear to be largely motivational in nature (Mine, Ebrahimi, and Wachtel, 1995). Along with perception, personality, attitudes, and learning, motivation is a very important element of behaviour. Nevertheless, motivation is not the only explanation of behaviour. It interacts with and acts in conjunction with other cognitive processes. Motivating is the management process of influencing behaviour based on the knowledge of what make people tick (Luthans, 1998). Motivation and motivating both deal with the range of conscious human behaviour somewhere between two extremes: .Reflex actions such as a sneeze or flutter of the eyelids; and .Learned habits such as brushing one’s teeth or handwriting style (Wallace and Szilag 1982: 53). Luthans (1998) asserts that motivation is the process that arouses, energizes, directs, and sustains behaviour and performance. That is, it is the process of stimulating people to action and to achieve a desired task. One way of stimulating employees is to employ effective motivation, which makes workers more satisfied with and committed to their jobs. Money is not the only motivator. There are other incentives which can also serve as motivators. Along with perception, personality, attitudes, and learning, motivation is a very important part of understanding behaviour. Luthan (1998) asserts that motivation should not be thought of as the only explanation of behaviour, since it interacts with and acts in conjunction with other mediating processes and with the environment. Luthan stress that, like the other cognitive process, motivation cannot be seen. All that can be seen is behaviour, and this should not be equated with causes of behaviour.
