  Morally
 Indefensible
 and
 Environmentally
 Unsustainable

When
 witnessed
 in
 reality,
 it
 goes
 without
 saying
 that
 the
 modern
 killing
 of
 animals

Comment [1]: Topic
 sentence
 tells
 me
  exactly
 and
 concisely
 what
 this
 essay
 will
 be
  about.

for
 food
 is
 a
 reprehensible
 human
 activity.
 Some
 condone
 this
 practice
 citing
 the
 human
  tradition
  through
  the
  ages
  of
  hunting
  animals
  for
  food.
  However,
  the
  contemporary
  practice
  developed
  by
  the
  food
  industry
  of
  animal
  farming
  is
  unique
  to
  our
  modern
  times
  and
  cannot
  be
  compared
  to
  other
  times
  in
  human
  history.
  If
  people
  of
  good
  conscience
  become
  aware
  of
  modern
  food
  farming
  practices,
  the
  status
  quo
  will
  certainly
  change.
  In
  this
  essay,
  I
  intend
  to
  argue
  that
  the
  systematic
  killing
  of
  animals
  for
  food
  is
  indefensible
  and
  therefore
  unacceptable
  because
  it
  forgoes
  respect
 for
 life
 and
 operates
 under
 environmentally
 unsustainable
 conditions.
  To
 begin
 with,
 the
 killing
 of
 animals
 for
 food
 nowadays
 is
 an
 inhumane
 practice
 that
  is
 not
 comparable
 to
 other
 times
 in
 human
 history.
 Over
 ten
 billion
 animals
 are
 raised
  every
 year
 in
 factory
 farm
 conditions
 nowadays
 (Hill).
 A
 great
 thinker
 once
 said
 a
 long
  time
  ago,
  and
  other
  great
  philosophers
  throughout
  human
  history
  agree
  that
  people
  should
 “do
 unto
 others
 what
 they
 would
 want
 others
 to
 do
 unto
 them.”
 Can
 “others”
 also
  include
  animals?
  Not
  only
  it
  can,
  but
  it
  should.
  Nowadays,
  human
  beings
  consume
  close
  to
 250
 million
 tons
 of
 meat
 every
 year
 and
 the
 problem
 is
 getting
 worse
 (Iwacat).
 This
  means
  that
  millions
  upon
  millions
  of
  animals
  are
  raised
  in
  unsanitary
  and
  inhumane

Comment [4]: Complete
 thesis
 statement
  setting
 a
 roadmap
 to
 the
 organization
 and
  argumentation
 that
 will
 take
 place
 in
 this
  essay.

Comment [5]: Topic
 sentence
 sets
 the
 tone
  for
 the
 paragraph.

Comment [6]: Some
 statistic
 to
 solidify
 the
  argument.

Comment [7]: Another
 supporting
 example
  in
 the
 form
 of
 a
 proverb.

Comment [8]: This
 sentence
 connects
 the
  proverb
 to
 the
 issue
 at
 hand.
