Geography is the study of our planet Earth with all its physical properties and features, including all the people and cultures of the world. There are five aspects of Geography: physical geography is concerned with the physical features, the land and water forms, land elevations, climate and environment; social geography reveals the people and cultures of the world; political geography shows how the earth is divided into countries, nations, and cities, and the human government; economic geography is concerned with the natural resources, the production and trade between the different countries; and cosmic geography enables us to discover the Earth’s place in the universe, including the sun, moon, stars, galaxies, meteors, comets, the ozone layer, and the interdependence of all things in the universe.
The following are the three main sets of Geography activities: •
The Land and Water Globe and the Continent Globe;
The Land and Water Forms; and
The Puzzle Maps.
The Land and Water Globe and the Continent Globe
The Land and Water Globe provides the child with an impression that the shape of the Earth is round and that the two fundamental elements of the Earth’s surface consists of land and water. The Continent Globe increases the child’s awareness of the names, positions, shapes and sizes of the land masses and the oceans. The child can see and feel how the land surface of the Earth is divided into seven continents including Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe and Australasia/Oceania; and how the water of the Earth is divided into five major oceans including the Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Indian Ocean, Southern Ocean and the Arctic Ocean.
