Monologue of a seeverly abused young adult "Sam"
All lights off, excluding a light above USR which flickers spontaneously throughout monologue on to a wonky, old, road sign "WRONG WAY GO BACK". A follow spot in on SAM CS the entire time.

SAM: Love - strange word that. Hard to comprehend. Hard to even understand. Well you know I wasn't always this messed up. I use to go to school yeah it wasn't that crash hot, but it was some form of education. It was just mum and I. Dad left after breaking my arm and giving me a black eye. Leaving me with the words "if you ever come near my daughter I will finish the job". Yeah see my Dad wasn't the most honest father. He liked to sleep around a bit. He had a new child but to a different women, when I was 5. I knew of this kid and saw a photo once, but I was never allowed to tell her the truth about her Dad, crush her life. Dad always made it clear I was the bad influence, "that weak kid", the pathetic lil' shit, "A poor excuse for a boy". Soon after dad left Uncle Martin moved in to help mum out. He gladly welcomed himself into more then just our home. (Pause) He welcomed himself into my bedroom. From then on my life was set on a nice downward spiral to nothingness. Uncle Martin saw it fit to share my bed, secretly, until I was 11. I then moved out and into a friend's house, Brock's father's house. Mum was distraught and turned to drinking. (Pause) Haven't really seen her since. Brock swore he saw her at "Bad Girls" a month back but I know he didn't. My Mum would never do that. Brock's place slash a twin garage wasn't too pleasant. It stank of rum and tobacco, and stale bread was the usual menu. Brock was into weed. got me into it too. We got along pretty good but he was always the one with the power, maybe I should probably say his Dad. Boy, can that bloke swing a beer bottle. Yer' ever since we were really tripped out one night and I blurted out what happened with good ol' Uncle Martin. Brock called me a fag and went on saying I probably enjoyed it. From then on he was

During the American Revolution Soldiers weren’t the only ones who were at high risk of death. For example in the small town of Redding, Connecticut there was a variety of different opinions on war. Unlike like most happy stories and fairytales there was no good side, there might have been a good cause but no side was considered innocent. The Patriots were killing someone for a crime they did or looked like they were committing even if they were fighting for their side. The British were exaggerating situations to get a chance to execute a fellow loyalist or Patriot. In the book My Brother Sam is Dead by, James Lincoln Collier and Christopher Collier,…

Jill: I can't talk about him. No, I will talk about him. Every once in a while it's good to do something you don't want to do, it cleanses the insides. He was terribly sweet, and groovy looking, but kind of adolescent, ya know what I mean? Girls mature faster than boys, boys are neater, but girls mature faster. When we met, it was like fireworks! It was a marvelous kind of passion that made every day seem like the 4th of July! Anyways.. the next thing I know, there we are, standing in front of the Justice of the Peace, getting married!? Its only been like two or three months and we're getting married?! I'm not even out of high school! I've got two big exams tomorrow and they were on my mind too.. and then I hear the words, "Do you Jack, take Jill, to be your lawful wedded wife?" UGH!!! Can you imagine going through life as "Jack and Jill" ?! Then I hear, "Until death do us part." And all of the sudden, its not even a wedding anymore, more like a funeral service! And there I am being buried alive!... Under Jack Benson! I wanted to scream, go running out into the night! But I couldn't.. It was 10 o'clock in the morning and well, you can't go running out into 10 o'clock in the morning. So instead, I passed out. If only I'd fainted, before I said "I…

Let’s start in the beginning, (very biblical I know but bare with me on this; it’s my first time). As I predicted, I was conceived as an accident, my father being a big time criminal and heroin addict (along with many other hard drugs I’m sure). My mother was going through a very tough stage in life where she felt unsettled by her parents for some reason, became a punk of some kind, would away from home incessantly, take all sorts of revolting narcotics and most possibly have a lot of sex with various guys. I’m not sure how my mum and dad actually met, that is a riddle to be solved, but I do know that they had a little flat in London and were living together with two dogs, one of which a violent Staffy. Once mum had found out that she was pregnant with me my father lost it. Every now and then he’d beat her and hurl abuse at her. I’m not sure what he was like sober; my mother says that he was never to be seen so. He was always wired on something.…

The Psychology 2 In the movie Life as a House, George 's son, Sam goes through new changes in behavior. When the movie begun Sam was a rebellious young teen with negative feelings toward his father. Throughout the plot of the movie Sam goes through experiences with his father as they spend time together over the summer, which brings them closer together and allows them to have a better relationship. Sam 's acting out and unwanted actions were results of his parents divorce and not having a healthy relationship with his father. In Psychology, the basic concept of Nature vs. Nurture is said to Influence Development. Nature, according to Laura A. King (2010), includes “the individual 's biological inheritance, especially his or her genes” (p.264). Nurture involves a persons environment and experiences. In her book King (2010) also states “early experiences are important contributors to development” (p.266). In the movie you could easily understand the nurture side of Sam 's behavior. Knowing and hearing about what kind of people Sam hangs out with we can kind of understand why he dresses a certain way and why he partakes in certain activities, such as drugs. The people he hangs out with leads us back again to the divorce. Sam chooses to hang out with others like him who fell pain inside. His behaviors are a cry for help. In the movie Sam says “I like how it feels not to feel”. He does drugs to forget his problems and not feel pain. The emotions that young kids and teens go through when parents get a divorce usually include depression, anger, sadness, and the feeling that maybe they could have done something to have made the situation better. While some children and teens choose to hide their feelings, Sam didn 't. He acted out with disrespect and constant anger. “No one knows whether there are actually more depressed kids…

Step by wicked step, my boots sank further and further into the thick, red-tinged land as if the devil himself were dragging my body straight into the depths of hell. The rhythmic squelching stabbed through my rubber soles, radiating pain throughout my soul as it seared everything in its path. Squelch, squelch, squish. My tempo was interrupted by those cursed boots refusing to budge from the stubborn terrain. As if taunting me, the earth unhooked my feet from the damned soil…

Back when I was a littlun, my daddy worked in the meat factory and mama stayed at home cleaning the house and making me my dinner. My parents wanted me to be a smarty, so they made me go to school. They also said I was a good singer, so I decided to join the boys choir. Me and my best bud Charles would go down to the river to skip rocks, but sometimes we would go play chicken on the railroad tracks. Sometimes daddy would say “Stephen, wanna come a huntin with me?” and I would tag along behind him while he hunted for pheasant. I never really listened to daddy’s rules, so he decided to send me off to some fancy boarding school. It was at this point in my life where everything started taking a turn for the worst.…

Phoebe always gave the nurses that visited me a terrific time, which ended up having the nurses take care of me like i was the president. She left her latest story on my bedside table. Hazel Weatherfield got shot in the leg, but still somehow managed to fend off a mob of gangsters with an empty revolver. Of course, I found that impossible. My mother eventually to see me, along with the Phoebe and D.B. We had a long talk, and I don't feel much like talking about it. I remember she started crying at one point. I got up and gave her a hug. D.B. and Phoebe joined in quick. It was the least phony thing you could imagine. I told her that everything would be fine, and that we were all here, Allie too. That made her smile. She looked me in the eyes then kissed me on the cheek. She was still crying, but I swear they were tears of joy. What troubled me though was that Dad wasn't there. He's never there for these rare moments. That worried me a little bit. I felt like I should have worried about it, or at least pretended to worry about it, but I didn’'t. Come to think of it, Dad is hardly on my mind nowadays. He's on my mind even less that he used to be when we were normally together, and that was pretty low. Don't ask me why, because I can't explain…

This happy person from many years ago was slowly drifting away from the difficult situations I encountered along the way. As I was losing the pieces of myself, my brother was the little boy who put the puzzle back together.…
