1. INTRODUCTION
According to the literature given in class, we analyze the level of efficiency of different supermarkets and hypermarkets in Portugal. To do that we used databes content different variables. In our first solution we selected not all the variables given us. The selected variables choose are: The area of the shop (m2), the Value of goods in stock (Euros), the General costs of the shop (Euros), the Human resource costs (Euros), the Spoilage of goods (stolen products, validity date, loses of products,…), Sales (Euros). We chose this variables because they can show the efficiency of the management of the stores and also managers can have an influence on them. In the first step we don’t consider variables: Competition (supermarkets and hypermarkets competitors in a radio of 30 minutes of distance), Population (number of people living less than thirty minutes to the shop calculated based in an average velocity of 50 Km/hour) and the ratio Pop/comp. This information was obtain from a data base of 70 real portuguese supermarkets and hypermarkets. Our work will try to answer at this questions: 1. Why some supermarkets and hypermarkets are more efficient than others? 2. Which... [continues]
