Office Hours: Thursdays 10:00 am -- 12:00 am or by appointments Text: “Mathematical Methods for Physicists” (Sixth Edition) By Arfken & Weber

Coverage: Chapters 1-15 (excluding Tensor Analysis, Sec. 2.6-- 2.11 and Group Theory, the whole of Chapter 4) Only sections of chapters will be covered in class where homework problems have been assigned.

Exams There will be two take-home exams. The first will cover chapters 1-3 and the second chapters 5-8. The final exam, which may be a take-home exam, will consist of the rest of the material that has been covered in class.

Grading: Homework……………….20% Exams…………………...80%

The final letter grades will be assigned on a curve based on the total numerical grades. No plus/minus grade will be given. Homework: Only two problems of each chapter will be graded and that will constitute the grade gotten for that particular chapter. The two problems will be chosen at random and so students are expected to hand in all the assigned homework problems.
