Mockingjay Part 1, Chapter 1, by Suzanne Collins, is so far telling the story of Katniss Everdeen visiting District 12 and living in District 13. When Katniss arrives at District 12, she starts to feel sorrowful and culpable for the destruction and deaths of so many people she is seeing. Katniss goes into her old home while she was there and finds a white flower that was fresh and she thinks that it’s from President Snow. This flower obtained her attention so much, even though it was just a flower it meant more to her, something like revenge. “...how it’s not just a flower, not even just President Snow’s flower, but a promise of revenge…” (15). Then, she travels to District 13, where she and all the people from District 12 have to live in now…

In Teen Dystopia: Should we be worried about what Generation Z is reading?, the author, Sophie Boyer debates whether The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins, is a suitable book for our generation to read. Through the discussion of both sides of the story, in the end, the author concludes that The Hunger Games is a “well-constructed allegory that reflects a more realistic portrayal of our world” and “reminds the reader to never take anything for granted.…

Ladies and gentleman of the jury I find the book mocking jay by Suzanne Collins in 2010 to be very good at keeping me in suspense and keeping me interested. However, there were areas in which the book was not quite as good such as giving all the details, being too violent, and isn’t good for little kids. The book is a good book and I liked it but I didn’t like it as much as I did the first 2 books and this last book disappointed me. I was expecting some amazing ending to the series of the hunger games but I was let down from the things that happened in the book. Mocking jay is just a sad book that doesn’t even seem humane for the capitol to be doing to all of these different districts.…

For my independent novel study, I have decided to use Suzanne Collin’s Novel the Hunger Games; a story set around a teenaged girl’s firsthand account of gladiator-like sports in a post-apocalyptic era where North America once stood. The book creates a mood or sense of suspense and hope for Katniss Everdeen, the protagonist who has to fight for survival in the Hunger Games. This reminds me of and relates to the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding. Where in his novel, a group of boys are found stranded on an island in the middle of nowhere and must fight for their survival as well as hope to be rescued. Katniss, just like the boys, finds herself trapped in an arena with other tributes, but instead of joining up with them she must fight them to the death in order to survive. She also has hope for her family. That her mother and younger sister Prim are surviving without her being able to care for them by hunting and providing them with a proper meal.…

Today is the day. The day where the Mockingjay unites with another to continue their lives together. Mother and I walk back to what’s left of the Seam, knowing it is a place worthy of a wedding. I found the dresses Cinna left behind for the forced wedding. Now, with Coin and Snow dead, nothing feels forced. I can hunt freely outside the District Limits put in place by the Peacekeepers. I can give to the poor what I catch, and I can make sure everyone is equal. I chose the least popular dress for the moment because I wanted to resist the Capitol to the maximum I could. I hate them for everything they did. Not just the military officials, everyone there. Taking all our resources and killing us off without a just reason. That’s why everyone needs a guiding light. And to me, Peeta’s light shines the brightest. He’s the reason I’m still alive. Because he risked himself to be captured by the Capitol so I would be safe. And only him will I trust to lead me into happiness.…

Katniss Everdeen is a teenager living in District 12. There used to be 13 districts but the 13th tried to start a riot and it got toxic-ally bombed by the government. The book is set many years ahead in what is perceived to be future America. Every year The Hunger Games is hosted to remind the districts how easy the government can destroy them and to remind them of what happened. Two contestants from each District are pitted against all of the others and stuck in a dome where they will fight to the death. Whoever is the last standing wins and gets a new home and everything they've always wanted. Katniss' father died when she was young, and since then she has been the leader of her family of three [mom, her, and sister]. Then, on the day of the drawing Katniss' sister is chosen, but instead Katniss volunteers in her place. For the boys, a guy named Peeta is chosen Katniss soon realizes that Peeta did a good deed for her when her dad died, he gave her two loaves of slightly baked bread for her and her family [even though his mother slapped him for it]. Then they are taken to the City called the Capitol and they are trained and mentored. Then, they are pitted in the dome. Katniss and Peeta pretend to fall in love. Peeta is really in love with her even though Katniss isn't sure. At one point an announcer says that if there are still two people left from the same district they can win. At the end, Katniss and Peeta are both left when the announcer changes what he said, only one can win. Katniss gets an idea. She picks some poison berries and her and Peeta almost eat them. Then the announcer says that they both can win. When they get back to where they were first trained, Katniss says that she was just playing the part. Peeta gets angry and basically gives her the cold shoulder most of the time. Then in the very end he says "one last time for the cameras" and they hold hands. The Hunger Games covers a period of about two or three weeks. The…

The Hunger Games (Suzanne Collins) focuses on the main character Katniss and her journey to revolt against the corrupt power system of her government the capitol. The ‘Hunger Games’ is a way of controlling those in the capitols power. Comparison “All I can think is how unjust the whole thing is, the Hunger Games. Why am I hopping around like some trained dog trying to please people I hate?” communicates how Katniss feels the Capitol is corrupt and there ‘hunger games’ is a way to exert there power over those they control. Like Katnisse’s viewpoint “Taking the kids from our districts, forcing them to kill one another while we watch – this is the Capitol’s way of reminding us how totally we are at their mercy” reveals how those oppressed by the capitols power realise that their lives are controlled by the capitol and they have no option…
