Mobile phone in education process
A mobile phone defined by Wikipedia is a device that allows its user to make and receive telephone calls to and from the public telephone network which includes other mobiles and fixed line phones across the world. Through mobile phone, one can do many things including enhancing their education process as told by Dr. Alan Drimmer, cited in AIU On line’s Mobile Learning Initiative. Based on the feedback of my research, most of student agreed with this idea where mobile phone can ease the educational process. Without realizing it, we already accepted it as part of our learning tools. Mobile phone in education can help students by the uses of virtual handout, longer educational range and as a tool to inform and remind others.
Mobile phone can ease the education process by using virtual handout and podcast player that can be access through mobile phone. Most mobile phone nowadays is equipped with internet connection that can download virtual handout such as e-book and audio podcast straight to the phone. Students can surf the web by using internet connection such as wireless local area network (WLAN) or GPRS to search information that are of interest. They can even download the information for future use. With mobile phone, information is just a click away. Students can also take a quick-note and check the calendar or daily schedule for better time management. Suppose your lecturer asked you to do a presentation about a certain topic that you are not familiar with. You can use your mobile phone to search that topic on the web instead of going to the library and go through all the books as it is time consuming. As a saying goes, failing to prepare is preparing to fail.
