3) Tap and Pay
According to our idea, Tap and Pay will bring about
a simple, easy way of shopping. Only using your
cell phone you can create your shopping cart bill
and pay easily with just a single tap.
It has advantages over the existing systems since it
is smart, easy and simple to use. No prior training is
required. Having the ‘Tap and Pay’ application on
your cell phone will give you a whole new
perspective on your shopping experience.

Abstract-Tap and Pay is a method using Near Field
Communication(NFC) which can make your
shopping experience more smarter, easier and
simple. One can easily choose products and create a
simultaneous shopping list on his handset. At the
end of his shopping he can pay his bill according to
the amount the application has calculated at the
proposed NFC payment module architecture. The
paper describes the proposed architecture and
working of Tap and Pay.

I. INTRODUCTION
Near Field Communication (NFC) is a short-range
wireless connectivity technology that provides
intuitive, simple, and safe communication between
electronic devices. Communication occurs when
two NFC-compatible devices are brought within
four centimetres of one another. [2][6]

A. Working of NFC

The 2 main components used for NFC
communication are-

1) NFC Reader
Usually a microcontroller-based (for example NFC
enabled phones) with an integrated circuits that is
capable of generating radio frequency at 13.56 MHz
with other components such as encoders, decoders,
antenna, comparators, and firmware designed to
transmit energy to a tag and read information back
from it by detecting the backscatter modulation. [8]
The reader continuously emits RF carrier signals,
and keeps observing the received RF signals for
data.

2) Tag
An Radio Frequency Identifier(RFID) device
incorporating a silicon memory chip connecting to
external antenna. Tag does not have its own power
source. The passive tag absorbs a small portion of
the energy emitted by the reader (phone), and starts
sending modulated information when sufficient
energy is acquired from the RF field generated by
the reader. [8][5]

B. NFC reader on the customer’s cell phone and an embedded MIDLET shopping mart application

* NFC Reader-The customer will tap his phone on the product tag and get the product information. The NFC reader reads the tag on the product once tapped.

* Shopping cart MIDLET named as ‘Tap and Pay’- This software will be processing the tapped products and adding them to the shopping cart in the application software. One can cancel the products by just clicking ‘REMOVE PRODUCT’ button in the application. As and when the customer adds new products to the shopping cart a new total is calculated as the amount to be paid at the end.[4]

C. Payment using NFC

Secure Element(SE) is a smart card chip, where
multiple applications could be stored. Secure Element
has a purpose to only accept software from trusted
parts that have the private key that allows
authentication.

A MIDlet is an application that uses the Mobile
Information Device Profile (MIDP) of the Connected
Limited Device Configuration (CLDC) for the Java
ME environment. MIDlet on customers Mobile
Device simulates contactless smartcard mode, so that
POS (Point of Sale) Terminal manufacturers might not
need to make new terminals that will be equipped with
NFC chip reader.

B. Disadvantages of existing payment method

1) Credit Cards
A payment card issued to users as a system
of payment is a credit card.
