Assessment EP003 Details Item 1: In class paragraphing activity

Criteria: The paragraph is the introductory paragraph to an essay. The topic and more details will be provided on the day of the assessment. The paragraph should contain the following:
Excellent (1 mark) Average (1/2 mark) Needs work (0 marks)

1. Funnel Introduction (2-4 sentences that introduce and give context to the question) 2. Lead in sentence 3. Thesis statement 4. Language that is formal and at an appropriate academic standard. 5. Spelling, grammar and punctuation at an appropriate academic standard. TO BE COMPLETED IN CLASS IN WEEK 4

Item 2: In class essay

10%

Criteria: The paper must take the form of a process essay, demonstrating and explaining the topic. The essay must include: 1. An introduction paragraph with an appropriate thesis statement 2. At least three body paragraphs, each of which includes a topic sentence, logical development, unity and coherence 3. A conclusion that refers back to the original thesis statement 4. Supporting evidence that will include thoughts and examples based on personal experience. 5. Correct Standard Australian spelling, correct grammar and punctuation 6. Use of Formal English. Contractions are not permitted (e.g. haven’t) and any numbers used are to be written in full (i.e. four not 4) 7. An appreciation of the audience. The paper is to be written with the expectation that the reader has limited knowledge of the topic (The focus for this essay is the structure, academic writing style, punctuation and grammar.) The essay marking rubric included in this package will be used to mark the essay. TO BE COMPLETED IN CLASS IN WEEK 5
