Misdiagnose of children with Learning Disabilities
In a busy world today, so many children are labeled with having a learning disorder when in fact they could be a gifted child or even a child that just needs a little more attention. There needs to be more resources available to teachers and parents to help them learn the similarities in a gifted child and a child with disabilities. There need to be more support groups for parents so they can learn about their options to help them cope with their child. Doctors and parents are too quick to put children on unnecessary medications due to lack of information and just plan ignorance to the symptoms and caring of the possible chance of a misdiagnosis. This can be very harmful in the long run not only for the child but for every one they come in contact with. Even though some children need medication to help them learn, parents, teachers and doctors are too quick to diagnose children with a learning disorder.
I am going to begin this essay with some information on children with learning disabilities. ADHD stands for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. The word learning disability has at least 12 definitions that appear in the professional literature. There is such a multidisciplinary nature in this field that many different issues have arose with these behaviors that many definitions or used.
