Mineral and Water Function
Minerals are a vital part of the body in many aspects. The functions of minerals vary by the mineral. Some minerals help in developing bone structures such as calcium, other assist in energy regulation, and some even assist with genetics. The amount of these minerals that the body needs also varies depending on the mineral. There are two types of minerals, major minerals and trace elements. We find the minerals that our bodies need from animals and plants, the amount of these minerals however vary. The minerals our bodies need are transported by water in our body. Water makes up a large majority of the body. Adults have 60% whereas infants contain roughly 75%. The purposes water in the body serve is many including transportation, temperature regulation, and is used in chemical reactions within the body. The water plays a vital role in the body, and because of that ensuring the body has plenty of water is just as vital. Without proper hydration the body may become dehydrated. Dehydration can have harmful effects that can be as simple as thirst to death if not treated. Symptoms begin with thirst and turn into cramps, dizziness, and light-headedness. If the warning signs are not heeded, the body begins to shut down the organs. Together, water inside the body and minerals assist one another in the basic functions of the body. Water assists minerals with chemical reactions as well as transporting the minerals to the different locations they are needed. Overall, it goes without saying that an insufficient amount of either one can cause serious problems within the body. For this reason, even supplements have become a means of reaching a healthy diet.
