Microsoft Corporation as we know it today has moved up as an esteemed company competing with the elite in the high tech industry. It is a global computer technology corporation that is engaged in the manufacture, development, licensing, and support of a multitude of software products for computing devices. Bill Gates and Paul Allen founded Microsoft in 1975 in Albuquerque, New Mexico and moved to Bellevue, Washington in 1979. The two joined together to sell their product BASIC, which was the first PC computer language program to MS’s customer MITS. The year 1981 proved very essential for the company as it labeled itself ‘incorporated’, that year IBM also used Microsoft’s 16-bit operating system for its first personal computer. In 1990, the company launched MS Windows 3.0 and sold more than 100,000 copies of the software in just two weeks. After just one year in 1991, Microsoft Research was established for the research of computer science studies, and Microsoft Visual basic a development product for individuals and corporations. The years following, signified immense success for the company. It introduced many new innovative products in the tech industry. The five core business divisions of Microsoft are Windows, Server and Tools, Online Service, MS Business Division and Entertainment and Devices. Some of the most popular Microsoft product lines include: Internet Explorer, Bing search engine, XBOX 360, Zune mp3 player, Windows seven Phone, and Windows OS. All of its product lines have helped the company gain popularity and revenue. Microsoft’s Windows operating system is the one of the most popular well known OS used in PCs.
