Michael Jordan: A Success Story
“AIR JORDAN,” what comes to ones mind when you hear those two words together? Basketball, sneakers, riches, fame… No, hard work and success because Michael Jordan has worked harder than any other man that has ever touched the basketball court. In effect of that, Jordan has come to levels of success that have never even been thought of reaching. Michael Jordan has defeated all the odds and has not allowed them to over-shadow his dream to become a professional basketball player, it actually motivated him to bloom into one of the best players the National Basketball League has ever seen. Michael Jordan was born on February seventeenth, 1963 in Brooklyn, New York. As soon as Jordan was born, his parents decided to move to Wilmington, North Carolina to avoid the exposure of drugs and violence to their four children. The family looked for a calm, easy-going community to live in and found such requirements in Wilmington, North Carolina. Michael does not have a rags-to-riches story like other athletes, his family was reasonably comfortable. As a young boy, Michael played various sports such as football, baseball and basketball. He was not avidly interested in any of the three sports. Through out his child hood, he played just for the fun of it. He mainly played baseball because of his father, he loved the sport. It was his father’s dream for Michael to play professional baseball. Michael liked baseball but his passion for basketball surpassed baseball. His passion began when he would play pick-up games with his older brother Larry. Larry would win every time, and that would urge Michael to work harder to beat Larry. This encouraged Michael to tryout for his high school basketball team his sophomore year, at Emsley A. Laney High School. Michael was ambitious but the coach of the time said that five feet and ten inches was not enough, he was too short. He ran home, locked himself in his room for hours and cried his eyes out (aceshowbiz.com)
