Response#6: This book might be the one of my favorite book that I would like to read form this class. First reason, Jordan is one of my favorite basketball players. He is an amazing player, kind of like a legend, and everybody knows that. First here, I would like to share my experiences about reading this book and why I like it. The title of this book is Michael Jordan and new global capitalism. The emphases of book could be the global capitalism of sport, so it’s kind of like connects with the economy, and Michael Jordan is important sign of it. In the first page of this book, there is a “the information age”, the book describes it as the new era and it’s a beginning of something different in the world history. I agree with that. Because of Michael Jordan with his amazing “stories”, everyone gets an enjoyable time of watching basketball and maybe enjoy by themselves in their life. Then the key is here, Michael Jordan brings this storm here, also the most important is he brings a huge business opportunity to in the new era. For an instance, in the Chinese young people, basketball is the most popular sport in their life. They love to play it and watch the game; also they would like to buy something that is about basketball. Also, that is mentioned in the book. Nike, everybody knows it. Jordan is one of the series of Nike Company. As my personal experience, I usually wake up very early just for a Jordan’s shoes. Look, this is how Nike earns its money and it is just so successful of it. As go as when I was reading this book, I am glad to see many instances of the past event. The power of the popular culture might be my favorite part of this book. “Jordan’s career also helps us understand something about the nature of U.S. power in the post-Cold-War era”, this is said by the Phil Knight who is the founder and CEO of Nike.
