Have you ever wondered how the computer came about and who the first cultivators are? If you own a computer chances are it is of the mark Dell, Gateway or a Mac. These extraordinary entrepreneurs have made themselves and their company millions and millions of dollars. My entrepreneur is Michael Dell founder of the computer company Dell. Dell Inc has been making computers for years and even though they have been under pressure from other new computer companies he was clearly in the lead. Dell had the heart and the will to make something great out of himself and even though he went into college for pre-med he left with a doctor in computer software and his net worth is 12.3 billion.
Michael Dell was born on February 23 1965 in Houston, Texas. Since the age of twelve Dell was destined to succeed, with the founding of a direct marketing company which offered a national stamp auction through the mail which earned him 2,000 dollars. Four years later he sold newspaper subscriptions through target marketing, and bought himself a BMW with the 18 thousand he had earned. A couple years later he offered the first toll free technical support and on site service in the PC business services that later became standard procedure throughout the industry.
Michael Dells business didn’t soar until about halfway through his first year in college at the university of Texas. At around this time he began to sell custom made computers directly to customers. Computer manufactures at the time were selling to wholesales and retailers who jacked up the price and sold to customers. Dell went a different route and made computers from cheap surplus parts and sold directly to customers.
In 1984 Dell’s dorm room computer business was grossing about 80,000 a month and with that kind of money he dropped out and began to construct his company. By selling directly to consumers he could sell PC at about 40% of the price of an IBM. In 1988... [continues]
