Jennifer’s Paper 04/09/2011
INTRODUCTION
The Miami School District has started the process of rezoning within its school district due to an influx of new student applications. Rezoning might be good for the school districts overall, however, the effect it would have on the students involved could be overwhelming. The rezoning process would not be favorable to the stakeholders in this situation, who are mainly the parents of the students that would be affected by the rezoning. Many parents with children have many considerations when moving into an area. One of those considerations is the schools their children will be attending, the level of education their children will be receiving from these schools and the distance of the school from their home. The students in question will also be affected since they have become accustom to the style and level of expectation of the teachers they are currently involved with. They would be forced to not only relearn how a particular teacher teaches but also what that teacher expects from the individual student. There would be a tremendous burden on the students to adjust to possible different economic and cultural levels which may exist and also to readapt socially and in many cases leave valued friends behind and try and make new friends in a much different arena.
With this paper, I plan to explore not only the concerns of the stakeholders but also address the negotiation strategy that has been used to support the school board’s need to rezone while giving consideration to the stakeholder’s concerns.
