Miami, FL is a big city of much beauty being located in a very southernmost part of Florida on the east coast side. It is also a city of much crime. There are many violent crimes each year such as murders, rapes, robberies, and aggravated assaults. There are also many property crimes like burglaries, larceny and thefts, and motor vehicle thefts. Last year there were 5,709 violent crimes. There were 63 murders, 42 rapes, 2,415 robberies, and 3,189 assaults. There were a lot more property crimes. There were 4,941 burglaries, 13,591 thefts, 3,666 car thefts, and 196 arsons. The mission statement of the Miami Police Department is as follows; “Our mission, together with the communities of Miami, is to make our city a place where all people can live, work, and visit safely without fear.” The Vision of the Miami Police Department is as follows; “The Miami Police Department will maintain the highest standards of professional ethics and integrity. We are committed to the philosophy of community and neighborhood policing. We will build partnerships and coalitions with the business, corporate, and residential communities to identify and recommend solutions to problems with the goal of improving the quality of life in our neighborhoods. We will employ time-tested police methods and promising innovative approaches to better protect our communities. We value the cultural unity and differences of our communities, recognizing that there is strength in both.
