Metaphor Poems

Comfort is a warm bed
Coming home after hours on end of treacherous work
Knowing there is absolutely nothing you can do about it,
But still feeling happy inside the moment you sit down.
When all the stress of the world gets released out of your body And all you feel inside is prosperity and calmness
As your physical being gets devoured into the sheets
Into a twilight zone, only a yawn away from
Deep calming sleep

Joy is the first week of summer
After never ending weeks of studying,
Finals that could turn anyone into a ticking time bomb
Ready to blow from stress at any given second.
Knowing that you have nothing to worry about for 3 months
Turning off that annoying alarm, one last time
That’s woken you up for the past 14 years.

Desire is a cat
Chasing a laser, wherever it may go.
Not having a plan on what to do with it,
But putting all the effort into retrieving it,
Without letting anything get in the way
of getting what it wants.
No matter what it may take.

Hope is a war
Being fiercely fought on one side only
While the victims just await, defenseless.
Patiently dreading another day –
When their enemy decides to attack again.
Dreaming for a better tomorrow,
Where they wont have to squander from their homes
Without having to push themselves into fight

Loyalty is a dog
Greeting their owner with the joy of Christmas
Every time he enters the door.
Even after leaving them in a cage,
For over 8 hours… still praising the man
Like if they we’re the greatest thing that
Could’ve ever occurred to them.

Memory is a sound.
The first beat to your favorite childhood sitcom,
Making it impossible to not sing along
Giving you the glow of a 5-year-old.
Waking up at 6 in the morning and waiting to hear
Your parents calling for breakfast,
Already savoring buttery pancakes covered in syrup.
