A Beautiful Mind does not accurately portray the symptoms of schizophrenia. An example of dramatized scene in the film is the part when Nash was cutting into his own arm to remove the implant, which was never there. Because of his actions, Nash was forced to endure the electroshock therapy. The methods that were used in the psychiatric hospital are outdated. There are better methods because of the advancement in technology. Nash does not like his medicine, and he shows what happens when the pills are not taken. A major dramatized symptom through out the movie is when he discovers that Charles is just hallucination. People with schizophrenia do not see visual hallucinations but they hear voices in their heads. In addition, Nash suddenly realizes that Marcee has not aged since they first met, despite that many years having gone by. When Nash realizes the potential complexities of the hallucinations his mind can produce he also realizes that he must do something to cope with his illness. Nash confronts his hallucinations, telling them good-bye and that he will no longer be speaking with them. Eventually, Nash is able to learn to cope with his illness.
