Memorial Day is observed on the last Monday of May. It commemorates all men and women, who have died in military service for the United States. Memorial Day has become less of an occasion of remembrance. Today, many communities celebrate the observance of this holiday by organizing parades and official ceremonies that honor those that have fallen. Americans also honor soldiers by visiting cemeteries and national monuments and other memorials by placing flowers and flags on graves. Others honor the fallen by flying their flags half-staff until noon on Memorial Day. Many people choose to hold picnics, sports events and family gatherings on this weekend. Memorial Day is important because it is a day we set aside to remember those who gave their all for us to live free today, it is a day to honor those men and women who died for our country, and it is a day to honor those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. I think we should celebrate Memorial Day because men and women of the United States paid tribute to our community. They protected our nation so that we could have a better life. We should celebrate Memorial Day because I feel that we should have a day out of our busy lives to honor the brave men and women that have sacrificed and fought for us. Without the brave veterans of the U.S we wouldn’t feel safe and free at times. They worked hard and dedicated their lives and had to be without family and friends for a while. So to show a little appreciation we should celebrate Memorial Day, that way the brave men and women can understand and truly feel our appreciation.
