Media Portrayal of Diversity
Introduction
In most schools, journalist students meet white professionals. The professors primarily male, and leaving many students unable to experience the American diversity until out in the world of reporting. When examining American news media, it is noticeable that members of ethnic and minorities groups are poorly characterize. Minorities often stereotyped and humiliated. Most of the behaviors that individuals display coincide with what the media portrays. Who we see, hear, and read on television, radio, newspapers, and in movies has a great deal of influence on shaping the attitudes of all Americans. How African, Hispanic (Latino), and Asian Americans are portray in these mediums often stereotypes and reinforces negative images of each ethnic group (Ethnic Majority, 2009). In this paper, I discuss how the media and diversity is expressed in reviewing several articles from Time.com about the horrific act of nature, the earthquake in Haiti.
Representing Diversity in American Landscape
The sense of identity and the history were lost in the destruction of the buildings and the incentive not just to recover but restore the sense of self. This article shows a very good job of presenting diversity in the American landscape. It reveals the many ways of life and their pride in their Haitian culture. They keep their religious faith still intact and strong. Advocates support the importance, potential, and impressions of Haitian culture for social, cultural, economic, development of the people for successful assimilation into the American culture.

Relying on Stereotypes
Emphases on Haitian stereotypes exhibited in the article. The article stated, “The poorest nation in the western hemisphere, a place where malnutrition is widespread, and less than half the population has access to clean drinking water” (Time, Jan. 14, 2010).
