MBA Program Introduction Essay
I started my career path by following my instincts which guided me through what I do best: solving technical problems. For more than twenty years since I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, I have been employed by various high tech companies, and participated in a wide spectrum of projects, which involved all aspects of engineering from nanotechnologies to high power radar communication, from micron size electronics to multi-millions worldwide e-commerce software application. I have seen it all, yet I still feel like I am missing a link; a link that would connect the gap between technology and reality; a link that would guide me to apply my experience and knowledge to provide solutions that are effective, simple and not blindsided by all the cutting edge technology. That link to me is the ability to see the business side of the equation and the MBA program from Concordia University will be the right step for me to build that missing link.
Pursuing the MBA degree would be milestone for me and my family. My parents are retired teachers and have started many unsuccessful business ventures during their careers. My sisters, a Chemical Engineer and an Architect, have both quit their jobs to pursue private businesses and were able to achieve some levels of success. However, none have taken the next step of obtaining the MBA degree, and through all the discussions between us, they all are very supportive of me to pursue this graduate degree. And even though it is not my desire to venture out and start a business anytime soon, a MBA degree will enable me to be ready when the time comes.
Recall back the last few years at my current job, in which I hold a position of Application Technical Lead. My normal daily responsibilities include develop and resolve product related issues (software bugs), provide technical assessment for product change requests, mentor junior software engineers on best practices and work

The opportunity cost of receiving such a degree heavily depends on your personal and professional situations. Evaluating your personal situation can be more important than professional because you have to be able to put yourself in a position where you are able to start a program, be successful, and stick with it. To do these things you have to sacrifice time that you spend for yourself, your family, and other activities that you enjoy doing. Anything that is non-monetary that you sacrifice in obtaining your MBA is considered to be your implicit costs. Sometimes you even have to put things to the side such as getting a part-time job to make extra money or even starting a family. Your professional opportunities also play a factor. Evaluating whether obtaining an MBA for professional growth really depends on how you see yourself in the future. Do you want to advance your career at the same company where you are currently employed, or make a career change? Does getting your MBA assist you in achieving higher positions in your current field? Are you comfortable with the current level of education that you have earned? These professional issues play a huge role in deciding whether you should continue on in school. (Thomas-Maurice, 2008)…

I had made plans to start a PR & AD company in my freshman year of college. I had concentrated on mass communications classes in college as my minor, then had worked in the intelligence field for three years in the army, and I have spent the last three years in public relations at Daewoo. My job scope includes media relations, event coordinating, sponsorships, and corporate advertising. Although I still have much to learn, I think my studies in college, and my experience in the Army and Daewoo has enabled me to understand on a large scale what public relations and advertisement is. My brother who has a master's degree in advertisement from Syracuse University currently works for Korea's largest advertisement company, Cheil Communications. It was he who first recommended that I get an MBA. He suggested that since he had a master's degree in advertisement, I should focus on managerial and entrepreneurial skills. We plan to establish Kimbell Communications (tentative name) together as soon as I finish my studies.…
