This week we are learning about two-variable inequalities as they pertain to algebraic expressions. The inequality can be graphed to show the values included in and excluded from a given range of numbers. Solving for inequalities such as these is a critical skill in many trades which can save or cost a company a lot of time and money.…

Algebra, the foundation of all higher level mathematic courses, and I would prefer if my students take this course in middle school, but it can be taken in freshman year of high school as well. I was told by the librarian that this book would be great for self-study and easy comprehension of the Algebra course. This is the bare minimum of easy, the last course that I would definitely recommend be taken in middle…

    | The Discussion Board (DB) is part of the core of online learning. Classroom discussion in an online environment requires the active participation of students and the instructor to create robust interaction and dialogue. Every student is expected to create an original response to the open-ended DB question as well as engage in dialogue by responding to posts created by others throughout the week. At the end of each unit, DB participation will be assessed based on both level of engagement and the quality of the contribution to the discussion. At a minimum, each student will be expected to post an original and thoughtful response to the DB question and contribute to the weekly dialogue by responding to at least two other posts from students. The first contribution must be posted before midnight (Central Time) on Wednesday of each week. Two additional responses are required after Wednesday of each week. Students are highly encouraged to engage on the Discussion Board early and often, as that is the primary way the university tracks class attendance and participation. The purpose of the Discussion Board is to allow students to learn through sharing ideas and experiences as they relate to course content and the DB question. Because it is not possible to engage in two-way dialogue after a conversation has ended, no posts to the DB will be accepted after the end of each week.A grandmother is looking for a plan to finance her new grandchild’s college education. She has $50,000 to invest. Search the internet and locate a long-range investment plan, CD, Savings Bond, etc, for the grandmother. The plan is to earn compound interest. Calculate the future value of the investment. You must use the advertised interest rate, the number of compounding periods per year, and the time the funds will be invested. If you are not…

    Algebra In High School

Schools in California now have higher expectations to make it necessary for students to take a Algebra 1 course in order to graduate from high school. This requirement issues that it will help students achieve higher expectations and great problem solving skills in future references. People like Mitchell Rosen a licensed family counselor who also disagrees with having Algebra 1 be a requirement for high schools. In one of Rosens articles “Finding X is not a factor of living,” he explains that algebra is not a reliable subject because it not used in the real world. Rosen argues that students should better life training skills in other subjects, students “need more [fundamental] training, not the fine-tuning.” Rosen argues…

As Korean is language number six for me, I feel I’ve come a long way in mapping out the exact learning strategy that works best. I’m going to wait until this entire project is finished to do a complete summary of that method, but I’ll share some of the methods I found very helpful in China and plan to transfer to learning Korean. My goal for Korean in three months is still an ambitious one: be able to read simple writing and hold conversations about most everyday topics. This is a slightly lower bar than my Chinese, and because I believe I surpassed the bar for Chinese in being able to have a greater conversational range than I had previously imagined, I think it is possible to do the same with Korean.…
