Managerial Economics – BBA2194 Group project and Presentation
You and your team are economic analysts for Global Investment Research (GIR) Pvt Ltd , an International Investment consulting group based in the US. GIR has branches in 20 countries and is the leading consultant for International investors who are willing to invest large sums of money in a country. A consortium which consists of a group of investors from the oil rich Gulf States are keen to invest in a country with an emerging economy. Your task is to draft a detailed economic report and investment recommendations for the country of your choice. You will be required to do a 20 minute briefing to the clients. Your presentation should include background information of the country , economic data , past and present , macroeconomic forecasts for economic activity and recommendations for investments. Please include graphs, tables and charts to illustrate your presentation. Pictures and videos would be an advantage. Your information should cover at least 5 years of data. You would also be required to submit a 15 page hard copy of your report to the investors. Your presentation / report should cover the following: 1. Introduction  History and a little background information of the country What is the type of economy?  Geographic information, major cities ,neighboring countries etc ( include a map)  What are the natural resources (if any)?  Political climate (past and present), who is the president/prime minister.. etc  Population growth  Demographic information (composition of the population , population density, birth rate , age group etc….)

2. Major events/crisis that occurred - Economic cycles, Disasters etc - and how the country emerged from it , (for eg. Asian financial crisis, subprime crisis , floods, natural disasters etc….)

3. What are the major sectors of the economy? , Agricultural, service, manufacturing, financial, Tourism…….How are they performing ?

4. What are the main Macro economic factors and economic outlook? (include past and present information, include some graph – your data should cover the last 5 years or more)  GDP growth  Per-capita income  Inflation rate  Unemployment statistics and the labor market  Interest rates  Currency fluctuations  Fiscal policies  Monetary policies  Government budget, is it surplus or deficit last 5 years 5. Investments/ banking  Growth of the FDI ( foreign Direct Investments) and which sector of the economy have the FDI been growing  Government policies to spur investments and FDI  Performance of the stock market  The financial / banking sector – what is the central bank 6. International trade  Major exports and imports, who are their main trading partners,  What are the Trade deficits , surpluses  Balance of payments  Competitive report (where does the country rank ?)  Is it part of any trade Agreement? , NAFTA, AFTA, ASEAN,etc………. what are the benefits of the agreements if any?  What are the trade barriers? (Tariffs, non tariff ) 7. What are your recommendations to the group of Investors? Which sectors of the economy and what industry should they invest in? Substantiate your answer 8. In your opinion, what are the risks and challenges in investing in the country? What are the precautions that they should take? 9. Conclusion
