The remarkable success of the Pony model made Hyundai Motors Company the top carmaker in Korea. With the rapid expansion of its mass production capacity, Hyundai Motor Company developed a variety of models ranging for the Excel (1985), Stellar (1982), Sonata (1985), and Elantra (1990). Finally, Hyundai Motors Company opened its first overseas plant in Canada in 1983. The success of the Pony in Canada makes a significant market entry of Hyundai Motor Company into United States in 1986.
