What makes a good movie?
What makes a good movie? This is a very hard question, as different people have different views and ideas. I will try my best to answer this question. A good movie is a movie that leaves people thinking it is a good movie after watching it. If people don't think that it is a good movie after watching it, then the movie has failed to be a good movie.

This hasn't really answered the question as I still haven't told you what makes a good movie. A good movie needs to be a movie that does not bore people to death. How do you make a movie like that then? There are many ways to answer that question, but I will start with special effects. To make a good movie, it is not necessary to have good special effects, but good special effects can help make a good movie. A lot of movies nowadays use special effects to make the movie better, like 'The matrix', 'Lord of the rings', and countless other movies. A lot of people comment on the special effects of a movie after watching the movie. There are times when people say: "That movie was horrible but the special effects surely were very good. So having special effects helps having a good movie.

The next thing I will talk about that helps with making a good movie a the acting skills of the actors in the movie. A good example of good acting is Johnny Depp in the movie 'Pirates of the Carribean'. If his acting had been bad in the movie, a lot less people would have liked the movie.

Possibly, the thing most people care about while watching a movie is the main character and how he or she acts. This isn't very surprising as usually a movie is focused on the main character. Often, a lot of people judge the movie from how good the main characters are and whether they like the main characters or not. Examples of good main characters are Neo in 'The matrix', Captain Jack Sparrow in 'Pirates of the Caribbean' and Marcus in 'Gladiator'.

What I think most strongly about though is that no one thing can just turn a movie good but really it takes a combination of things to turn a movie good.

What makes a good movie? An engaging plotline, talented actors and actresses; perhaps a happy ending? Movies have always been an important part of American culture; of course, they can entertain us but they can also hold up mirrors to society, raising awareness about issues we need to pay attention to, and help us form opinions. But it’s getting harder and harder to find good movies in current theaters. Current films are being made in an age where almost any movie can pass as a good one, not necessarily due to talent or skill, but due to the weakening of the standards we once held our films up to. The 1930 Motion Picture Production Code gave filmmakers a set of guidelines that let only the most talented films reach audiences; it provided audiences with quality films that didn’t have to sacrifice artistry for explanation or lean on pointless vulgarities to catch audiences’ attentions; it acted as a filter that allowed only the finer-made films to be shown to the people who loved them and kept coming back to see them. The 1930s film code was the superior code because it gave the public superior films.…

Most people will go see a movie they’ve heard was good or seems like it will be entertaining. However, how many people will see a movie just because a certain actors in it or a certain director? As said by Stanley Kubrick, “A film is - or should be - more like music than like fiction. It should be a progression of moods and feelings. The theme, what's behind the emotion, the meaning, all that comes later,” in which I agree. Movies should share a story that flows through you carrying emotion and life lessons in which may never has occurred to the average thinker. Tim Burton’s films are like music, each one a slightly different tone yet just as meaningful. The appeal Tim Burton has on its audience through the use of imagination, characterization, and animation.…

In fact it is the complete puzzle piece that a film needs, which determines the quality of the film itself. Every single detail is essentially important to the film, from the bold dialogue to the small detailed movement, from the frayed clothes to the thick oblivious make-up, everything has to be well done for a film to be qualified for excellence. What makes mise en scene’s elements the most crucial part in films, is that it tells the story, before adding the dialogues, music or elaborated sound effects.
