They influence the decisions we make and provide us with comfort and support in times of need. Some people like to have lots of friends and others prefer one or two very close ones. What makes a good friend? A certainly viable answer is someone who is caring, patient, kind, and accepting. But people may have many different answers as to what makes a good friend in their book. Is there really one answer?

One answer that comes to mind in searching for friends is trust. Without trust a friendship means nothing. What good is a friend that is able to hear secrets but turns around and shares them with whomever they wish? There are many definitions of the different types of friends that exist in the world. There is the best friend that is like a sister or brother. There is the best friend that knows most of the secrets but some are still kept sacred. Then we have various other kinds of friends. Those who are close friends that we trust, but not enough to be our best pals. They can be trusted people who we don't see very often or maybe in passing. Within all of these people one thing Is for sure, trust is the main component.

With trust comes loyalty. Loyalty, as a general term, it signifies a person's devotion or sentiment of attachment to a particular object, which may be another person or group of persons. What better in a friendship than someone who is there in thick and thin? When one doesn't have either of these traits a friendship may go sour causing an end to whatever kind of relationship there may have been. Nobody can live alone in the world; everybody needs a friend. We need friends in our lives who can help us when we are in trouble, who can stand by us through the hard times and put an arm around us and comforts us when we cry, who can cheer us up when we are frustrated

In our modern world we categorize true friends into a group of individualistic people. They are viewed as someone who will always be there to lean on, someone who will listen to your dilemmas with a deep insight, and in return, give you a response that is free from criticism. For me the word "friend" means many different things. One of the things that makes someone a friend is when they are always there for you. They give you love if you are ever having a hard time and they try to lift up your mood. They make sure you are never in danger or doing something that could have negative consequences. A good friend looks out for you even if you are having an argument with them. When you are someone's friend, it doesn't mean you are talking to them at all hours of the day. A friend is someone that you can talk to even if you haven't talked in days and it won't feel weird at all. Friendship is a sentimental bond between two people and this bond is broken by dishonesty. Honesty is important in friendship so that our friends believe that what we say. If we are known to be honest about all things then when we tell our friends something they believe you. If we are known to be dishonest for just once, none respect us. For example if I ask information about someone to my friend, he gave some information which is not truth. When I came to know that, I won't believe my friend next time. Even it will make gap between us.…

Honesty to me is the most important quality to look for in a friend because if you have honesty it will bring many other great qualities along whit it. Honesty is a facet of moral character and connotes positive and virtues attributes such as integrity, truthfulness and straight forwardness along with the absence of lying, cheating or theft. If you were to look up the meaning of truthfulness, you would see that it means “to be consistent in telling the truth and to be honest.” In that same dictionary, the word honesty is defined as “the capacity or condition of being honest; integrity; trustworthiness”. Without honesty the friendship would fall apart.…
